How to Cook Everything is a fantastic resource for someone (like me) who isn't the most seasoned chef but wants to know how to make delicious things. We just bought the second version, How to Cook Everything Fast, and it's almost all different from the first one! I also love Beer and Food which isn't a cookbook per se, but has a whole bunch of interesting ideas for pairings and a lot of recipes.
