it took me 8 hours to recover some mysql (innodb) tables the other day so i am bitter and upset with mysql also the php-style relaxed conversions. and the 'warnings' when it does something dumb but still lets it happen anyway. the php of databases.

pgshard and postgresxl and their licensed derivatives are ok, but yeah given how many companies are using pg at scale theres been surprisingly little contributed back postgres as a whole is ok and since 9.2 is contending for best non-bespoke relational db. but in general the state of relational dbs is sad and stagnant, almost as sad a stagnant as serious posting about databases on a saturday night
