Best of luck with this Shrimpy. I've gotten to be able to see you grow up over the years from your posts on /m/ and whatnot. I know sometimes I've said stuff you haven't liked (like when I trolled your twitter feed a little while) but this is a good group of people who want to help you feel better about anime and life in general. And personally, although sometimes what you say can make me mad or disappointed, you're not a bad person. The fact you're willing to at least *try* to do this is something you should find strength and pride in, because not everyone in your shoes would be able to.

And I know you're not a fan of Gurren Lagann *or* Kamina, but Kamina's most important words I think are appropriate here: "Believe in the you that believes in yourself." Be confident in having confidence in yourself. This is your chance to expand your horizons and explore beyond your comfort zones. And you can share what you feel about what you experience and have an active, attentive audience.

Think of this like it's your big break in the world of internet reviewing. Ganbare.

I will admit I am scared. But I normally get huge performance anxiety in situations like this. It's sort of like being given an important role in Drama club, and not wanting to screw up.

Being scared and anxious is perfectly normal whenever someone starts something new. But once you do it a couple of times that shouldn't be as big an issue.

Out of the three choices I've only seen Turn A, but would I be correct in saying that Xabungle is the silliest?

Still in the process of making a decision, but can paper lion clarify why Brain Powered must be viewed in dubbed format? That's making it a little trickier to find.

This challenge actually rules because this reminded me to watch Turn-A and Xabungle and watching one sounds like it'll be more fun if there's going to be a thread about it. Even if the thread only exists to serve Clawshrimpy's journey through anime.

Well, I guess i'll have to give Brain Powered and Xabungle a try as well.

Not that I ever had a reason not to watch them, I just never got around to it...

If I can make a suggestion, i'd have to say we avoid the subject of Gurren Lagann comparisons as well because last time(two years ago) that brought up A LOT of arguments.

Anyways, good luck Clawshrimpy!

This is your decision to make, but personally I think you should choose Turn A, simply because it's probably the one show out of the 3 that most people will have seen, and be able to provide discussion on.

Yeah, it's outright Looney Tunes-esque pretty often.

Does have some serious stuff underneath but there is a lot of cartoony slapstick going on.

It's good.

I think it's just because a lot of people feel the dub actors give stronger performances. I watched it subbed and it was fine.

Yeah, I can second this. It might even provide more common ground because the actor who does Hime is the same one who does Sochie in Turn A (and does an amazing job)

Is Akino Murata retired or something because she didn't seem to do anything really afterwards. I thought she was good in both shows.

clawshrimpy get on skype and i can help you find the shows you need.

Also, Brain Powerd being specifically dub is because the voice acting in the dub has a lot of charm and is far far far more memorable than the original Japanese to me. I'm usually not a dub guy at all, but Brain Powerd is absolutely Dub Only in my opinion.

Don't feel pressure man! All journeys begin with a single step :unsmith:

Clawshrimpy, if you do end up choosing Turn A and you have any questions you don't want to ask in the thread, I know a lot about Turn A and you already have my skype.

I'd actually prefer to discourage this. One of the primary points of the thread is to get Shrimpy comfortable with discourse, asking questions (especially if they might seem obvious or dumb to him, because asking those questions is still ok and no one is judging!) and the rest of us hearing his opinions and using them as points of polite and genuine discussion. Having him take questions of opinions behind closed doors is against the spirit of the endeavour.
