No you don't understand, the ability to repair tanks and remove landmines is a valuable contrihahahahahaha. Also, assuming the map design is anything like 3, I can only imagine how quickly those deployment limits are going to get annoying and/or infuriating.

So the prestigious and highly selective military academy, whose application exams are so strict that multiple people have expressed amazement our main character successfully got in, has an entire class of people it considers utterly incompetent and worthless and whose teacher openly declares them to have no actual motivation to be here. And at least three of the people in the class were sent there directly from their exam. Why...why didn't they just not accept them? Is there some quota of anime cliches they had to meet or something?

Tae posted:Lancer Uniforms I suppose, in a certain way, I have to admire the sheer balls and/or critical lack of self-awareness it takes to design absolute territory into the bomb-proof armor, and then put in a caption about how important it was to add extra armor to the shins.

By the way, regarding sandbag defense: IIRC, it's not that you need to attack from the rear of the sandbags. The position of the sandbags is actually completely irrelevant, aside from determining how many bullets are valiantly ablated by them. As you can see from the "Frt" in the aim box, and from the lancer turning to face you, he is aware of your attack, and is thus able to summon psychic power from the friendly sandbag fairies to resist your bullets. If you instead get a rear shot (possibly side shots as well? can't remember), he is unable to summon this power in time and gets no defense from the sandbags. This ends up mostly only being relevant with map transitions - depending on the map layout, you or the enemy can capture one side of the base and then spawn into the other behind their backs for some free kills. But it can be amusing to spray wildly at a base halfway across the map in the hope of randomly capping one of the defenders in the back of the head.

Archaotic posted:Exactly - some of the tropes in Star Ocean 5 seem to be outright copy-pastes of tropes they just used in SO4. There's a difference between clunky writing and outright recycling bad tropes you've already used before in the previous installment of your series. Credit where credit's due: they're copy pastes of tropes from all the Star Oceans except 4. Even Tri-Ace recognizes SO4 as a horrible mistake that should never be repeated. Like I'm pretty sure they've explicitly had press releases to that effect. Neddy Seagoon posted:The real question is who didn't? Valkyria Chronicles 1 did the siblings-not-by-blood thing too and amazingly had the good sense not to go down this road with it. It also had the Perons, who basically did go down this road but had the good sense of pushing it completely over the top into outright absurdity. So god only knows how they screwed it up this time.
