I'm thinking of working on a novel I'd started last year, so I understand if that's daunting to jump in on. But the most successful writing group I've been a part of hinged a lot on IRC discussion and critique, so I'm hoping we can get some of that going.

I'm thinking of entering, but I need to know so I can adjust my word pledge accordingly. If they do count, then I need to raise it significantly. Think of Thunderdome as your weekly sketchbook. This is the thread for getting around to that masterpiece (or masterpieces) you've been putting off.

Hi goons. Would you guys be up to convene on IRC somewhere around April 15th? I was talking to Twist about it, and we agreed that it could be good for everyone participating to check in, trade insults, talk shop, and give a little extra motivation. The thread is cool but slow, and having a monthly "meetup" or whatever could keep those of us who are literal children somewhat on task. Thoughts?

Cool. I have no idea how many time zones we're working with. At a glance, it looks like a lot. The 15th is a Wednesday, which I assume a lot of people work. Having two sessions would probably be best. This is super informal, but for organization's sake I was thinking we could do one around 7PM UTC (evening for europe goons, early afternoon for most US goons) and another around 2AM UTC (10PM for US east coast, 7PM for the west coast). Some of us are neckbeards and will be hanging around IRC all day anyway. If that's too hard to manage during the work week, we could maybe push it back to Friday the 17th. That way it would be Saturday for any goons in NZ since I'm guessing none of the previously mentioned times are super convenient during the week. I dunno though. I guess we can start from there and people can let me know if other times would work better. im bad at time zone.

^^^^^ CHALLENGE ACCEPTEDSurreptitiousMuffin posted:Yo let's make it official Yep. I'm going to be shooting to have this done by the end of May, not April, since I'm pretty well-entrenched in my novel right now. Plus, you can't rush perfection. Muffin, I offer you not so much a prompt but some inspiration. Your words are lovely, but your endings leave judges and readers wanting. Consider the Ouroboros: A symbol of eternity, of cycles, entropy and new beginnings. I want you to keep this potent symbol of magic and alchemy in mind as you write. Much like the snake has a head and a tail, stories have plots and sub-plots. What I want you to do is give me an ending that brings your story full circle, and resolves both your plot and your subplot in one fell swoop. This isn't for my benefit. How well you stick the ending will be for BCS to decide. Godspeed, S. Muffin.

oh, and in other news The Big Last Call By the power vested in me by absolutely no one, I decree that we all get together via IRC on Saturday, April 18th. The consensus seems to be that more of us can do IRC reliably on the weekend. We can exchange writing samples, bounce plot ideas around, exchange insults, and eventually pass out drunkenly on our respective keyboards. It'll be good fun. I'm a helpless dork, so I'll pretty much be around all day to kind of facilitate things. I think we can stick roughly to the times I outlined in my last post: Part one will be at 7PM UTC, part two will be 2AM UTC. I'll be around all day, as will others I'm sure. Get those words writ.

We've officially checked in with Capntastic, Dr. K, Entenzahn, Chthonic Bell, killfast37, twist, red tonic, morning bell, crabrock and of course me. What's everyone else doing? Well I know Systran is writing MLP fanfic, and Muffin has put words toward his short story for Beneath Ceaseless skies. But I have to assume the rest of you lot are uselessly chewing cud with a disturbingly vacant look in your eyes. Prove me wrong

I'm gonna hit my 5K in the next day or two, got kind of thrown off by happenings in the ol' Thunderdome. Gonna for 7500 words next month, since I'll be working on my short story. My goal is to do at least 2K more novel words while I'm at it, too.

I just copied my work into its own doc for accuracy's sake. I got thrown off by judging Thunderdome's wizard apocalypse. For May, I'm trying to write 9K (7K of short story, 2K minimum novel words), and my goal is to establish better writing habits by getting up earlier and writing at least an hour before noon every day. I've been dawdling on this so long, I'm learning the value of just writing past scenes that don't feel quite right. So far, leaving myself comments in google docs where I want to change things is working out okay. At least I'm moving forward instead of tinkering.
