Unsure how this will go since it's "go do this mission. Okay now go do that mission" but I'm going to play anyway so figured I might as well screenshot a bunch of it for you all to ignore.

Earthsiege 2 was released in 1996. It was one of a dozen games released in a hurry to get in on the 'drive big armored mech and shoot stuff' craze that happened around that time.

In Earthsiege they are called HERCULEANs (Humaniform-Emulation Roboticized Combat Unit with Leg-Articulated Navigation)or HERCs for short. I don't have Earthsiege 1, so I'm skipping straight to Earthsiege 2. In this game we have terrain that we will need to navigate around (once or twice maybe), can fly drones, and have mission briefings and squadmates that we can interact with. You can equip your HERC with weapons, you bring back scrap metal and/or weapons from the enemy that you destroy (so shoot the legs!), and you can build new weapons and HERCs in between missions and then equip said HERCs.

It was awesome when I was 12, lets see how awesome it still is.

Screenshots will be cropped in the next updates. I've got to figure out how to crop them to just strip off the Virtual Machine crap from up top.

I am linking the entire intro since it's a 28mb gif.

GFYCAT GYF: http://gfycat.com/DescriptiveCompetentAmericancrocodile

Original gif hosted on gfycat: http://gfycat.com/DescriptiveCompetentAmericancrocodile#?format=gif

The story seems to be (judging by the intro) these evil computer HERCs were hiding on the moon (likely after being kicked off of earth in Earthsiege 1) and they are launching an invasion. We need to stop it. Maybe. I don't know.

Few things: I'm going to swear a lot. I'm going to screw up and need to be corrected. There will be zero sound clips for you; Virtual machine doesn't want to map to my speakers. I cant seem to remap the keyboard, so I'm stuck with IJKM to move my turret which is insane for a guy who is used to WASD.

I need a name and difficulty. I'm willing to play on Hard or whatever since I've actually played this game before. No warmups, no practice, just going to start killing poo poo.

Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

Why not use OBS then? Hell, this is a SSLP, so you can use Irfanview to take screenshots as you play if you don't wanna take video.

I played this back in the day. Sort of fun, I suppose. But I really loved the tactical spinoff game Missionforce Cyberstorm, where all your pilots are disposable pod-people with a live expectancy measured in months.

The first pilot there is Model 001 and he looks like this:

Not sure how OBS would benefit me since I already use Irfanview for the screenshots.

Are my screenshots not working or something? Or is this some weird circlejerk that I'm not understanding? I have a drat good system with Irfanview and gifcam. I don't need help running the game.

Dash Rendar, a Veteran, is back.

Welcome back, Soldier. This always reminds me of Starship Troopers. I tried to splice two gifs together here. First one is the opening "welcome thing" and then I go check out the mission after a little pause.

The armory shows our available weapons and lets us build new ones if we are short.

Here is where we equip weapons onto our HERCs. On the left side I can click on a weapon slot and equip something else if I want. I prefer 2 machine guns and a laser. Actually, I prefer a huge fuckoff HERC with assloads of weapons. But for now we just have a little HERC for recon.

This is a 2-man mission. We can bring another crew member with us.

Smith has a skill level of ELITE. Sanchez and Conner are rookies.

I make sure Smith has a working HERC with weapons and not something dumb like missiles. Missiles only give you a limited number of ammo which is not good when he launches all 8 missiles in the opening salvo and then has to rely on a laser or something for the rest of the mission.

The mission: Recon, destroy stuff. Kind of just easing us into this game.

Rock and Roll

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

We fire up the HERC. All systems nominal.

We walk just a hair toward our first waypoint and immediately come across a bad guy.

Smith and Dash Rendar open fire, easily destroying the evil cybrid.

We don't go much further when 2 flying units attack. Smith does better at killing them than Dash does.

But I do manage to take one down. See the scrap metal flying? That used to be a drone.

With that behind us we move on to Waypoint 1.

Another drone appears.

I hate drones so very much. AutoTracking is too slow to kill these things, so I need to manually control the targeting system which is a pain in the rear end.

Smith kills the drone, we reach Waypoint 1.

Another cybrid appears.

I shoot the legs off of the first one, and another appears on the horizon.

Smith beats me to this one, destroying the enemy HERC. We proceed to the next waypoint.

Fricken hills.

We reach the top and immediately run into more enemies.

They fall with ease.

We return to base and get a briefing.

Told you I hate drones. Smith took out 3 of them to my 1. We recovered 76 tons of Scrap Metal and 6 weapons.

Neither Smith nor Dash Rendar took damage.

We have a lot of scrap, so I'm going to build a Tomahawk HERC. More weapons, decent top speed, more armor.

We are interrupted by a cybrid attack on our base! SCRAMBLE TO THE HERCS EVERYONE! GO GO GO GO GO GO GO

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004
Dash Rendar, Smith, Sanchez, and Conner all suit up as fast as they can.

We fire up the suits and Dash tells his squad to scan for hostiles.

Just a drone? All this for a single drone?

Dash Rendar misses horribly.

A wave of cybrids attack from diferent directions. Dash Rendar has no choice but to send Smith to the west while he leads rookies to attack the other incoming enemies.

Smith (white dot on left of radar) heads west, Dash leads the rookies at the two incoming cybrids.

Dash Rendar quickly realizes he is too close. A well placed EMP fired by the second cybrid takes his shields down. Before the shields can power back up, a well placed shot blows one of his 50mm guns off of his HERC.

Smith finds success in the west, moves to rejoin Dash.

Dash engages, even though he is down a weapon. The rookies fire blindly into the dirt behind him.

With all of the enemy weapons blown off, Dash goes into chase mode. No cybrid will get away, not when Dash is on the job!

Smith lets us know there are more bogeys incoming. Dash checks his radar and tells his crew to fire at will.

Two more enemies coming from the west. One visible in the HUD, one on radar farther out.

Conner lights up the enemy, Dash engages from the side and disables the enemy HERC. Salvage crews will head out later to pick it clean.

More enemy spotted. Everyone engage, this looks to be the last wave!

Dash fires a perfectly placed warning shot across his bow.

Sanchez decides to try ramming the enemy HERC. He achieves nothing, Dash swears at him through the radio.

The enemy cybrid realizes it's 3 against one and turns tail to run.

Dash scores another disabling hit, more salvage for the crews to gather.

Smith failed to keep his target occupied, Dash takes a few lasers to the chest before he can bring his guns around.

Dash aims to disable the enemy. Salvage is money in this crazy world.

Conner racks up her first kill. However, she does this by changing targets. This leaves Dash exposed.

TEAMWORK, YOU ASSHOLES. TEAMWORK.

Sanchez fires wildly, scoring a crippling hit on the cybrid that had Dash pinned down.

A drone flies by the burning wreak that used to be a cybrid. Dash commands his entire squad to engage the target.

The drone is quickly killed. The squad forms up on Dash's position.

Another drone shows up. Dash engages poorly.

Dash disabled three of the six cybrids. He went 0/2 on flyers though. 65 tons and 7 weapons is not bad salvage, that's for sure.

Conner has gained valuable experience and is now a Regular pilot. Sanchez, despite his lucky shot, has not increased in skill dramatically.

Dash repairs the HERCs, replaces the weapon that was blown off his HERC...

... and checks on the progress of the Tomahawk class HERC he requested.

The Razor class HERC is almost ready. Dash feels like he was made to fly. This ground and pound stuff doesn't feel like him.

After some chow, Dash reports for duty. The briefing is simple. Meet up with our scout, hold off all enemies, bring back flight controls for our Razor HERC.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004
The mission today is all about speed. Luckily, Dash likes to go fast.

We suit up and immediately realize we need to get our butts to the objective ASAP. Full throttle engaged.

An enemy appears to the west. Dash has no time for single enemies, we need to recover that RAZOR part! Dash tells Smith to do what he does best: Attack the enemy trying to delay them.

Dash takes the rookies straight up the mountain, Smith lagging behind after killing the enemy.

Our objective appears on the radar. Our scout and the grey dot must be the downed drone we are sent to recover. Full speed ahead!

Dash takes to the ridgeline for speed. Sanchez on his right may go for a tumble, but Dash is all about the mission.

Smith caught up, so Dash sends him to the east to attack a target that just popped up.

On the left of the blue in the radar screen is another enemy closing in on the downed drone. The fastest way to it is through the enemy that Dash just told Smith to engage.

More enemies appear in the distance. Dash engages, lasers and miniguns firing as fast as possible.

One down, Dash turns his HERC to protect the downed Drone that we are here for.

The scout we had been sent to help darts forward and engages. Dash takes the kill with some long-range shooting.

The others are told to fire at will. Dash leads the charge at the two or three cybrids that just appeared over the hill.

Sanchez leads the way this time.

Dash cleverly accidentally runs into an enemy uses the disarmed enemy as a shield from the other cybrid attackers.

Sanchez and Conner engage the left target, so Dash has room to back up and destroy the right target.

Near simultaneous explosions, but Dash is too busy trying to make sure no one has snuck up on the package to get a good screenshot.

Phew. Everything looks good.

Two enemy drones appear, we are forced to engage.

Dash is possibly the worst person ever at shooting drones. Seriously, he's just so bad it's not even funny.

Smith is better. See the explosion of parts?

And with that, the mission is over. Dash reclines, thinking he should get a huge loving medal, and listens to the chief.

Dash looks eagerly at the Tomahawk HERC. Twice the firepower as the Outlaw.

He equips the HERC. A bay of 8 radar-seeking missiles is the crown on the HERC.

WOOOOOOOO! FLYING! Just what Dash Rendar has been looking for!

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004
ITT the only thing Dash does worse than shoot flying things is be in a flying thing and try to kill ground units.

Dash pimps out his ride. A couple lasers, a few plasma cannons, a pair of missile launchers.

Check waypoints, tag as many enemies as possible with targeting.

DASH IS FLYING

Found an enemy, identified him.

ENGAGE ENEMY EVEN THOUGH THEY SPECIFICALLY TOLD YOU NOT TO

Shields low, might want to abort...

Tagged more on the way to waypoint 2.

Huh, that cybrid is all alone...

Those are missles. In between them is the targeted cybrid.

Turns out the Razor with full shields makes a pretty good ramming unit. The missles and lasers did nothing.

Couple more waypoints and... Success!

Dash must gracefully decline to fly that piece of poo poo HERC again. If he had been piloting an Outlaw class or the brand new Tomahawk class HERC he would have killed all 9 enemies that were sighted.

Ramming speed sure does hurt.

Dash looks at the other HERCs he can build. 170 to 200 tons of salvage... Currently we have 40. And that's after he scrapped his old crappy outlaw.

Why don't they ever let Dash field test new weapons? Dash must now go save the dumb pilot.

Recommended: 1 Razor or Light HERC. gently caress off with that bullshit. Dash climbs into his newly equipped Tomahawk and prepares to save dummy pilot.

Spermy Smurf

DASH SAVE DUMMY PILOT

Dash leaps into action, linking his weapons so they fire simultaneously, then charges to the downed pilot who activated his homing beacon like a big "come get me" billboard to the cybrids. Dummy.

One drone.

Pilot spotted (on radar at least)

Two Drone...

Enemy sighted making a beeline at the helpless pilot. Dash cranks up the speed and charges to save dumdum the pilot.

The cybrid was so focused on the downed pilot that he ran right by Dash. Dash takes full advantage.

Another enemy spotted to the north. Dash moves to intercept.

But first: RAMMING SPEED, MISTER DUMDUM. Dash is unable to knock him over.

So he turns to attack the incoming bogey.

Quick maneuvering gets Dash behind for the quick takedown. Another enemy spotted immediately.

Dash engages.

Do they just not see Dash? They are too focused on the downed pilot to even shoot back.

The enemy is quickly destroyed. Allies arrive from the south. Dumdum Pilots squadmates. Dash lets them deal with the flying drones since he's hopeless at killing them.

25 Tons of salvage for 3 enemies? That seems very low. What am I doing wrong here?

Plasma Cannon takes 50 Tons of salvage to make. I want one. The 75mm minigun is available to us now. Dash requests a pair for his Tomahawk.

Why doesn't Pilot Dumdum and his squad take care of it? Fiiine, Dash will do it.

Dash powers up, ready for a lazy little escort mission. Hell, he is in the middle of his own base so it's not like anything bad will happen.

A couple drones buzz by, Dash ignores them. He approaches the waypoint and sees the friendly MAVERICK class HERC to the east.

Dash reaches the waypoint and waits for the escort and Maverick to approach.

The escort takes forever to approach because they seem to stop and shoot at the enemy drones. I have no idea why, the drones have never once in the history of the war fired a weapon at Dash.

Dash notices a lone ground enemy coming from the northeast. He is all too happy to leave the drones to the escort squad.

Thats not just one...

Ow, my shields!

Ow, my weapons!

Oh god that's 5 enemy HERCs. poo poo poo poo poo poo.

The escort catches up, but Dash has taken out the first two. He quickly brings his weapons to bear against the incoming three or four more cybrids.

Dash enjoys his Plasma cannon. It does great damage, but is slow to recharge.

Dash takes one out of commission.

And spins to help the Maverick that he is supposed to be escorting.

The escort finally helps.

Uno Mas.

Dash escorts the Maverick to the final waypoint so we can begin construction of the Maverick.

Stop shooting drones and follow Dash you stupid monkey!

Oh good 2 more enemy, Dash is down one weapon already, and the escort is shooting at drones rather than engaging.

Dash sees little choice. That Maverick class HERC might be important. He positions his body between the enemy and the Maverick.

The escort squad finally notices and begins to engage.

Ow, my other weapon!

That's for my laser that you shot off!

The escort squad takes down the other.

Dash doesn't have the weapon power to take out the drones anymore, so he forgets it and moves to the final waypoint. Maybe the escort squad will help.

The mission finishes. Dash rips off his helmet and heads inside to tear the brass a new one. Turns out they already know they hosed up, but Dash kicks a trash can in frustration anyway. Smith would have been helpful during that mission. Hell, Dash would have taken Sanchez.

Wait a minute. Dash almost died for a light class HERC? It's barely better than the crappy Outlaw class. It just has one more weapon mount, and moves 2kph faster. What a waste of resources to almost die for.

Dash repairs his HERC, replaces the weapons that were blown off, and heads to the briefing room. A transport? Looks like something needs to get blown up. This should be fun.

Dash takes Smith and Sanchez on this mission. Sanchez needs the experience. Smith is solid and good to have around.

En route to the first way point Dash quickly finds the enemy. Dash tells Sanchez to engage.

The enemy crest the hill already firing their weapons.

Sanchez takes down the first.

The second cybrid laces into Dash with all it's got. Dash and Sanchez return fire.

Then the cybrid turns and runs. Dash releases the hounds; Smith gives chase with Sanchez.

Stop running!

Dash took a more circular route and caught the sissy.

Back to the waypoint walking...

Dash crests the hill and realizes he is being funneled into a valley. More enemy are sighted. Engage.

Dash tells Sanchez to take the one on the right.

Turns out they both are going for Smith, so Dash and Sanchez have free shots at their flanks.

Dash takes some damage, but it's nothing major.

He comes out of the engagement on top. Smith finished off the other cybrid.

Dash leads his team down the valley, more cybrids approach.

This time they both lock on Dash and take his shields down. Dash reverses, trying to put some distance between them while keeping up suppressing fire.

Dash finishes the first off when it turns to engage Smith.

Sanchez drew the other one off.

Dash lends a hand with another leg shot. More salvage for the team.

Dash verifies he is not in any danger. It's just a scratch.

Heading deeper into the valley they reach the first waypoint. Another enemy spotted.

Or two...

They take down Dash's shields, but focus mostly on Smith. Smith is going to be hurting after this.

Dash and Sanchez take out both tin cans nearly simultaneously.

Heading deeper into the valley

The transport is spotted. Go go go go! Engage!

A higher class cybrid is the last line of defense.

It goes down to the combined fire from the squad.

Begin operation "destroy the transport"

And done.

Smith is a transport kill-stealing rear end in a top hat. Good salvage, troops! Another mission like that and we can build a Collosus or Samson or Apocalypse class HERC.

Sanchez got some kills, but remains a rookie.

Smith really took a beating in that second or third wave.

We can build another Tomahawk for Smith/Sanchez/Conner. Or we can save up a few more missions and build a big boy...

No time to rest. A cybrid signal was detected. Dash will lead smith (or someone of his choosing) to determine the source, download the data, and/or destroy the target.

Well, it says to bring all 4 crew members equipped as strong as possible. I guess Dash has no choice but to bring his buddies.

Dash tells the squad to start scanning for hostiles.

And two appear immediately on the far side of the base. Dash gives the command to fire at will.

No poo poo sherlock.

It quickly deteriorates into a clusterfuck of HERCs shooting at each other. Dash really laces into Conner here, but she should know better than to run in the line of fire.

Two more cybrids appear on the other side of the base.

Smith is closest, he rushes to engage. Dash follows quickly behind.

And they decide to shoot Dash instead of Smith.

Dash takes some hits, but blows off their weapons in response.

One down

No idea on the walking dong, but if I can, rest assured Dash will drive a giant dong.

Dash removes his crew because you assholes still haven't told him who to hang out with.

Pitbulls huh? Dash is a dog lover, so this should be fine.

Dash starts in the base and will proceed to four waypoints to scout for puppies.

Why didn't Dash start on this side of the base? It would have been a lot closer.

Zig-Zag pattern from waypoints 1 to 5.

Walking up the hill, nothing is around.

Nothing at waypoint 1, Dash changes heading to waypoint 2.

God damnit they're back at Waypoint 1 now. Dash sighs dramattically and turns his HERC to waypoint 1.

Ah, it's a threeway.

Dash's new Plasma Canon is loving hilariously overpowered. He destroys that thing from like 5 miles away.

Pretty sure the one on the right is dead, but the third one took Dash's shields down.

Dash took more than that cybrids shields down.

Okay, now Dash will head past the listening post and proceed to waypoint 2.

Nothing as far as the eye and radar can see.

There they are! Dash turns to engage.

They seem to be hiding behind this hill...

Yep, there they are.

PEW PEW PEW

The cybrid shoots Dash's shields, Dash shoots his face.

Okay on to waypoint 3.

What the gently caress. Dash doesn't see this guy on the radar, but Dash shoots his head off anyway.

Dash took a little damage, but nothing major.

Waypoint 3 seems to be over in those hills a bit. Dash does what Dash does (walks there).

Nothing. Again. Dash wonders if the enemy is somehow timing this mission, and is just twenty seconds slower than he is.

Dash heads to waypoint 4 and surprise! The enemy appear behind him back at Waypoint 3.

Dash can't quite see them clearly, but they are definitely coming over the hill.

WOOOOO THAT LOOKS LIKE A DOG! PITBULLS DEAD AHEAD!

Dash heads in for a closer look.

Yep, that's 4 legs.

3 legs.

2 legs and disabled on the right, another puppy dog dead ahead.

The downed dog is slowly sliding down the mountain, directly into Dash's firing range. Ugh.

Yeah, turn tail and run you little bitch.

Dash blows his dog whistle (fires plasma cannon) and disables the second doggy.

Not gonna lie, the second one hurt.

Waypoint 4 is empty.

Waypoint 4 shows nada, Dash proceeds to waypoint 5.

Nothing here. Dash waits around for a minute, no enemies show up so he returns to base.

110 salvage? Time to build another HERC!

And repair this one...

Maybe a nice apocalypse will look nice next to the Colossus that just finished.

Oh yeah, I forgot about these big ones. They have to carry missiles which really sucks, but hey... 30 missiles, 2 plasma cannons, 2 of the biggest laser, and 2 of the biggest machine guns will have to sate Dash's thirst for weaponry for now.

And now Dash is told he has to go take out an enemy base and the Pitbulls that NEVER ACTUALLY SHOWED UP TO ESCAPE HIS WRATH LAST MISSION :argh:

And they say to take 3 heavy HERCs. Since Dash's fanbase hates him, he'll do it himself (again). Assholes, each and every one of you.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

Dash fires up his new HERC. Look at the weapons on this thing... ARC missiles, cannons, guns, lasers... this is awesome.

Going straight up over the hill takes the speed down to 32kph. That's less than half of the Outlaw.

Dash finally gets to the top, but realizes he has to go down and up again.

Dash pops up over the ridge and immediately is set upon by 3 enemies.

One down and Dash hasn't even fired a missile yet.

Two down.

And 3.

Looking good, Dash! Back to walking waypoints!

On the other side of the hill is the enemy base.

A couple gun turrets surround it with a control tower in the middle.

Whats that on the radar? 4 enemies? Shitfuck.

A pitbull again!

Dash opens fire, but the pitbull has the same plasma cannons and takes some damage immediately.

And it doesn't go down very easily...

Dash takes out the central brain of it, leaving all 4 legs standing.

3 other two-legged HERCs are circling like vultures.

They keep up a lot of fire, Dash loses weapons, shields, and is generally pissed off.

They are much much faster than Dash in his powerful HERC.

One down.

Dos.

Three. You can see Dash's plasma cannon about to hit the back side.

Time to get to work on the base.

Dash really took a beating. All he has left is the plasma cannons.

The base gets dismantled easily.

Yeah, thanks. Sorry you hosed up the intel again. Dick.

Dash replaces the weapons.

Checks progress of the apocalypse.

Queues up some more weapons because he keeps getting them blown off.

And goes to the mission briefing. Bigger weapons? Hell yeah!

Mission suggestion: 3 medium HERCs. How about 1 Dash-sized HERC instead?

You jackwagons aren't going to make this easy on Dash are you? You don't want Sanchez to come along because he's too mexican. I get it, you're all a bunch of racists. You didn't want Dash to generate a romantic interest with Conner either. Nor did you want a bromance with Smith. You're a bunch of homophobic racists. You hear me? :argh:

Edit: If you want me to bring a buddy, just say who. Dash is all about sitting back and letting his teammates do all the work/get shot in the face.

Let's go with Sanchez: rookie needs to get better, and who better than Dash to teach him how to be (almost) as good as him? :v:

Yeah, get the rookie some experience while Dash can still solo everything.

Is there a way to modify the rookie's weapons loadout to minimize the chance they will destroy valuable salvage, even at the cost of reducing their combat effectiveness? Or is experience earned tied directly to damage/kills?

Dash and Sanchez, best friends forever.

There's a big base to defend and only two BFF's, so Dash tells Sanchez to head over to the far side of the base while he patrols to the waypoint.

Dash tells Sanchez that it's okay to scan for hostiles since that's our entire loving objective.

Dash and Sanchez (white on radar) move to different areas.

Dash doesn't see them on his radar.

Oh, way the gently caress back there. Thanks, Waypoint! loving military intelligence...

Dash tells Sanchez to engage and turns to help his Navajo buddy.

Sanchez engages three enemies. Believing this to be the end, Dash Rendar tells Sanchez that it was nice riding with him.

Dash Rendar: drat good riding with you, Sanchez.
Sanchez: Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Dash. You're all right...

Turns out Sanchez is a bit of a psychopath.

The enemy has blown up a fuel tank, but that's all so far. Sanchez can go get killed for all Dash cares now.

More enemies appear to the east, the gun turrets are destroying the enemy more than Sanchez is.

Dash leaves Sanchez to his hopeful death and engages the new enemies.

And another enemy to the northeast.

Not sure if you can see in the image, but that's a 3-missile set launching at the enemy. Dash takes home roughly 0 salvage now because the missiles destroy the entire loving enemy cybrids.

Blew his legs clean off.

Dash steamrolls the second and the third with this volley. Sanchez is hopefully dying a painful death elsewhere.

Another enemy appears on the radar. Dash engages (of course).

Sanchez appears behind Dash, Dash tells him to get his psychotic rear end away.

The enemy fires twice, Dash returns fire with 2 plasma cannons and 3 missiles. Dash wins.

The enemy blew up one building. That's all, pretty good all things considered.

50 tons of salvage for 4 cybrids? These missiles are ruining my salvage ratio.

Sanchez talks a big game, but didn't kill anything. The gun towers killed the enemy he was initially sent to engage.

The apocalypse should be ready after another mission.

New guns! 100mm gun and 500gw laser. Also more plasma cannons being built because there's another bigass HERC going to be completed soon.

Dash barely gets coffee into him before he is called to the briefing room.

The RAMSES class HERC has already destroyed 4 pilots? The RAMSES class hasn't met someone as fun to play with as Dash.

Dash and Sanchez suit up.

Dash tells Sanchez to start scanning, and also not to shoot him in the back.

Sanchez has a faster HERC, so Dash puts the pedal to the metal so to speak. He clocks in at a less than impressive 45kph.

Dash passes our bases radar station and heads to waypoint 1.

Nothing happening, proceed to waypoint 2.

Dash sees targets in the distance and checks what type of unit they are.

You mean the thing that Dash is targeting on top of the hill, you stupid bastard?

Waypoint 2 reached.

Almost to the listening post to download the files and Dash spots other cybrids approaching.

A quick check on what Dash has targeted and Dash realizes these are arachnid suicide bomb cybrids. Go get them, Sanchez!

Stupidly, Dash helps Sanchez shoot them.

Sanchez was right there, if Dash had not helped, Sanchez likely would have been blown up.

The listening post is way out in the middle of nowhere.

Initiate Transfer download thing.

Oh god damnit, where did those things come from? Good luck, Sanchez. Dash can't move very far from this post or he'll fail the mission.

WOOOOO IT'S ALL DONE, DASH TO THE RESCUE!

PEW PEW PEW PEW

Sanchez lands a devastating hit!

Technically Dash got the kill. Sanchez is just excited that his target has been destroyed.

Lets go home, psycho Sanchez.

Dash is annoyed at the low rate of salvage.

But the new HERC is done!

Targeting Pod or Missile rack? I think this will be Sanchez' new ride, so he'll probably use a targeting pod to be honest.

Dash is interrupted while outfitting Sanchez' new HERC. Another escort mission. Hopefully this new HERC is better than the shitheap that the Maverick was.

Recommended strike force: 1 medium HERC. gently caress you. How about Dash takes the biggest loving thing he can.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

Dash suits up and realizes he's like 30 loving miles away from the waypoint. No idea how far 2300 meters is, so guessing roughly 30 miles.

Along the waypoint is enemy #1. It's a big one, the strongest 2-legged cybrid unit available. Dash opens fire.

Before he can blink, 3 more cybrids show up.

Dash turns in their direction and notices a cybrid to the left...

Just behind that side of the mountain. Dash quickly understands he just got lucky. If he hadn't seen the left cybrid on the radar he would have been surrounded before he even knew it since mountains usually block radar entirely. He'd be getting shot in the back while engaged with 3 enemies.

The group of 3 are still not in sight on top of the hill, so Dash moves to take out the target that was trying to trap him.

Here kitty kitty kitty

Dash destroys the target in 4 seconds and immediately gets shot from the group of 3. He swivels his HERC torso and unloads.

No time for finesse. Dash is getting rocked.

One down, one disarmed, Dash hurt pretty bad.

Blew his leg off!

The unarmed guy runs.

Dash finishes him with a plasma cannon.

An enemy HERC is moving toward the new prototype HERC that we need to protect. Dash is slow, but if he had taken a smaller HERC he'd likely be dead by now.

Oh, he came to play!

Dash heads into the factory and toward the prototype. Another cybrid approaches at a sprint.

Dash REALLY took some damage there. That was 5 of the most powerful enemy units (aside of pitbulls) out of 7.

Dash cuts off the enemy before it can get to the factory.

Missiles locked.

FIRE!

It blew up, Dash turns to the prototype to say hello.

Thanks for the help, dildo! You've got weapons you know. They shoot enemies. They aren't just for looks.

Dash needs a nap.

Remember when the rear end in a top hat general said "recommended squad of one medium HERC"? Remember that? What a loving prick.

Dash repairs his HERC and is woken up from his nap with terrible news.

:siren:They want Dash to take a squad of 4 of the heaviest HERCs available. Sanchez and Dash alone, or should Dash bring the other two as well? Or just three? Or 0?:siren:

Oh man, oh man, this was my first big stompy robot game too, and I still remember how awesome it felt piloting one of them!

Also, Dash doesn't need no "recommended squad", Sanchez and Dash alone

Sanchez and Dash alone it is.

Sanchez, look for enemies.

Dash and Sanchez walk to waypoint 1 before they see anything on the radar. The cybrids are way up on a hill which works out perfectly because HERCs can't bend forward, so there is 100% no way the cybrids can return fire at Dash and Sanchez.

One down, 2nd on the top of the hill.

Thankfully Dash has shields.

2 down.

Dash leads the way to waypoint 2 when Sanchez turns and runs up the hill. Dash turns to see what the gently caress and there is an enemy that isn't showing up on his radar. The thing in the picture to the right of Sanchez is a dead cybrid. The alive one is left and over the hill. Sanchez kills it in 3 seconds with his superpowered HERC.

On the way to Waypoint 2 Sanchez notices some enemies. Fire at will, buddy!

3 of them. One blowing up to the right, 2 about to be blowing up to the left.

Two down.

And that fire to the left is #3.

Then Dash leads the way to the other waypoints and meets 0 other enemies. What a waste of time.

Sanchez got one ground kill and one air kill, so I'm not sure why it's not showing up in here.

Dash repairs his HERC.

And goes to the briefing. ALL OUT ATTACK ON OUR BASE. SCRAMBLE AND KILL EVERYTHING. NO TIME FOR REINFORCEMENTS, YOU WILL EARN YOUR PAY ON THIS ONE. by the way the recommended strike force is only 3 pilots. No need to take all four when it's something so puny and not-at-all dangerous even though I just said it was super loving dangerous and I'm kind of a stupid gently caress if you haven't noticed

I assume I'm going with just Dash and Sanchez again since I need to cover the entire base?

Dash brought Sanchez and Smith along. Smith, the elite pilot, got the Apocalypse. Sanchez gets the leftovers.

Dash forgot to get screenshots because he's an idiot. Basically up to this point he sent Sanchez and Smith to the east to defend that area from incoming cybrids and then charged toward another group.

Dash hides behind the gun turret and unloads on the two incoming cybrids.

One down. Wait a minute, are Sanchez and Smith NOT ENGAGING THEIR loving TARGETS?

Dash finishes his target, then spins to tell Smith and Sanchez to loving do something for fucks sake.

A wave of two heavies incoming, with 3 more to the west. Dash is all alone. Smith and Sanchez are finally engaging their TWO targets. gently caress gently caress gently caress.

And that's it for Dash's shields. He'll have to use his face as a shield from now on.

One to the immediate right is down, dash swivels to the last target and unloads point blank.

(first image just look at radar) Wait a god drat minute. Did Sanchez and Smith STOP ENGAGING THEIR TARGETS? Dash sighs heavily, opens the console and explicitly tells them to engage the loving targets. This takes time, allowing the three cybrids to the west to enter the base.

The group of three took out a gun turret and have entered the outskirts!

OH GOD DAMNIT THERE ARE TWO MORE AND WHAT THE gently caress IS SANCHEZ DOING? Smith at least is fighting two enemies. Sanchez is standing there with his dick in his hand.

Smith takes one out, tells Sanchez to join on Dash's position because it's about to get hairy. Smith can handle one by himself (Dash hopes)

Group of three engaged...

When Dash's weapons are charged fully, nothing can stand up to him. However, when he runs out of charge he really takes a beating.

Number 2 doesn't go down that quickly.

Number 2 falls offscreen, Dash already concentrating on number 3. Number 3 has had free reign to shoot the gently caress out of the right side of Dash's HERC. Dash has 3 loving weapons now. And 0 charge on the Cannon and Laser. Dash has 242 rounds of minigun ammo. Aim for the foot!

Yep, those are missiles. He's got like 40 missiles and is now standing inches away.

WOOOOOOO, he hits Dash with two missiles from point blank, Dash fires back with a Plasma Cannon which wins the war. Holy poo poo there are still two or three left.

Sanchez on the right (explosion near him) and Smith on the left (behind the window bar, you can see his legs) come to the rescue.

Hahaha we're so hosed. See that on the ground? That's Sanchez' HERC. That explosion was apparently his leg blowing off.

Smith and Dash's lone Plasma Cannon finish off the other cybrid. Mission successful.

I really don't think I was supposed to win that mission. This might be one of those 'branches' that this game incorporated. If I win I go on the left path, but if I lose the game proceeds down the right path.

Oh my god that was too many enemies. 9 out of 11 were the heaviest one available.

Dash Rendar took shitloads of damage.

Smith lost an assload of weapons too, plus the same amount of damage as Dash.

Sanchez is alive. Do you see that grey leg and codpiece? Those have been blown clean off. Sanchez almost died.

Dash spends the evening repairing and equipping weapons. He requests more plasma cannons, 100mm miniguns, and 500gw lasers to be built. Salvage is in short supply, so he'll have to make do with smaller guns and lasers.

Standard rescue mission.

Recommendation is 4 heavy HERCs? You recommended 3 for that brutal fight a minute ago where we almost lost all 3 of us. gently caress.

Alright, lets get to a new page because there is like 120Mb of images here.
:siren:Who should Dash take on this mission?:siren:

I'm tempted to say Dash and Sanchez, but seriously, after that performance Sanchez deserves a time-out. Go with Smith and Conner.
