Today's mission: Go rescue a raptor that has a turbo booster prototype on it. Also it's hurt, and there are likely plenty of enemies around.

Conner and Smith are equipped and ready to roll. Note that there is zero salvage available to fix and/or make new HERCS.

Dash starts in the base, and immediately leads his team to the downed raptor pilot.

Dash sees some enemy units and tells Conner and Smith to attack different targets.

Dash will start from the right and kill inward. Smith and Conner will start from the left.

One down, and Dash moves to the middle.

All three enemy units targeted Dash. Dash took some damage, lost a minigun.

There goes its leg.

Hold your fire, ladies and gentlemen! Join on Dash and lets get to the downed pilot!

There he is on the radar, dead ahead. There are a few drones buzzing by, but who cares.

He's within sight.

No enemies around, Conner and Smith nearby...

*yawn*

There is the enemy! On the right on the hill. Go get 'em Smith and Conner!

... Get the gently caress out of my way, Smith. This doesn't end well for you when you step in front of a plasma cannon. You know Dash has an itchy trigger, once he starts he can't stop.

One down.

Two down... and now just the one that Smith was blocking Dash from firing at.

Got him, and now 3 more enemies show up immediately. Dash tells his squad to engage!

Wow. That middle dude is much bigger than the other two. He's a new class of Cybrid we haven't seen before. Strongest one yet.

Yeah, that's 6 missiles launching because gently caress that huge thing.

Smith to the right lacing into it with his Particle Beam.

Dash doesn't stop firing, the big boy finally goes down.

That's smith to the right falling over. Shitfuck.

Conner is apparently shooting at the drones even though I specifically told her to engage THAT SPECIFIC TARGET THAT JUST TOOK SMITH DOWN.

Dash takes it out. Then he turns and hits Conner with a double Plasma Cannon to the face.

Smith is down, but still alive in the shattered wreak that used to be the most powerful HERC.

Oh god 41 tons of salvage :negative:

Dash is forced to scrap the last Outlaw in order to repair Smith's stupid HERC. Now Dash's squad is 4 people and only 3 HERCs available. poo poo. Better hope we get a lot of salvage from this mission.

Sanchez is energized after his rest, so he suits up with Smith for this in the newly-repaired Apocalypse.

She had a shield since she wasn't actively helping anything. Dash shot her shield, right in the face. No damage, but frustration levels were helped immensely.

Suit up, search for enemies, move to waypoint.

3 enemies appear in line to our target. Smith and Conner engage, Dash leads the way even though he has the slowest HERC of all 3 for some reason.

Missiles locked. Fire away!

One down and all it cost Dash were his shields.

Two and three are targeting Dash though, so he's going to feel this one.

The blew off a weapon.

Smith takes this kill, Sanchez steals Dash's other kill.

Ouch, but only a little ouch.

Walking to waypoint, Dash sees the enemy base on the radar.

And it's finally within sight.

Sanchez lets Dash know that enemies abound.

Yep, there are two of them. One for Smith, and one for Sanchez.

They seem to be waiting on this plateau.

Go get him, boy!

Those are bullets firing at Dash.

Yes, Dash takes a lot of punishment.

IT'S NOT MY FAULT, THE MISSILE WAS ALREADY EN ROUTE AND YOU STEPPED IN THE WAY, JACKOFF.

And now it's just PEW PEW PEW blowing up buildings.

Well, that was a building, not a tin can...

Dash stands among the wreckage.

1 for 5 and 2 for 11? What the gently caress, Dash. I expect better from you. But 193 tons of salvage! :woop:

Smith and Dash both took a lot of damage. Also they keep getting weapons blown off which fucks the salvage ratio since those plasma cannons are 50kg of salvage each, lasers are 25 and miniguns are 20. One of each gets blown off and that requires 95kg of salvage to replace. Ugh. Note that this was just over 50kg of salvage to repair both Dash and Smith's HERCs. Last mission we only came home with 41kg.

Dash can build a Razor class HERC!

But gently caress that, he builds a Sampson class instead.

Oh good. All-out attack with 3 enemy transports. That's likely to be 9 or 12 enemies. All heavy hitters too.

Recommended squad of 4 HERCs. Too bad Dash and Squad only own 3 HERCs. poo poo. I guess Conner is staying home. Sanchez and Smith will tag along and try to hold one side of the base while Dash protects the other side.

Okay so Dash immediately checks out his map. Turns out Waypoint 3 has incoming cybrids from it. Screw moving to waypoint 1, Dash sends the crew toward the incoming enemies.

Smith leads the charge and takes pretty amazing damage for it.

One more

Well, at least it stopped shooting Smith...

There is a landing craft and another enemy to the northwest. Dash sends Conner and Smith to engage, then turns toward waypoint 1.

(see radar, those two going to engage)

Conner is fast, Dash tells her to join up because there are two enemy landing craft dead ahead.

But only one cybrid in the vicinity.

The shields lasted only as long as they needed to.

Blowin up landing craft.

Huh. Dash and squad didn't do the mission the way it was supposed to be done, but it's hard to argue with results.

Apparently Dash and Crew are so awesome they are sending them to a new sector to help out.

Jesus christ we don't have poo poo for salvage. Dash and Smith will be going into the next mission with very very very beat up HERCs.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

Hey, uh, Gierling? Think they will have any spare salvage there because your 'best unit' is beat to poo poo and needs weapons and repair desperately.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

Ah, the OGRE class HERC got chased by some baddies and Smith and Dash are needed to save it. No problem!

Dash steps out of the hangar and sees two cybrids approaching. Engage.

PEW PEW PEW (dash takes yet more damage)

The issue Dash has is the missiles. The enemy unit gets disabled, is falling over, and THEN the missiles land blowing the perfect salvage to smithereens.

Here comes the Ogre class HERC. It's being chased by 2.

Down goes one

The second one falls quickly after, but manages to destroy two of Dash's already-damaged weapons.

3 tons. gently caress. :negative:

The Samson class is done, Dash equips it with whatever the poo poo is available for Conner.

Dash's weapon stockpile is basically empty.

The Ogre class HERC can be built now... for 230kg scrap. We have 0kg. We don't even have enough medium miniguns for the crew to equip.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004
Okay, from now on I'm taking everyone with me. gently caress this.

Ogre class for 230kg. Ugh.

Your radar sucks, Gierling. I'll go take care of it.

These sunsets are beautiful. Also there are two enemies right there. Lets go kill them.

Oh, and one on the hill.

Make that two on the hill. ENGAGE

One down, two weapons lost.

Heading up the hill.

Let them shoot at Sanchez, Dash will shoot them in the legs!

loving missiles landed after it's leg was already gone. :argh:

This is a huge hill.

Almost...

Three landing pods. Two on the hill, one beyond and to the left.

One

Two

Hey, betcha there's no cliff here. Since Dash can't bend down and loving look, he'll assume it's safe to walk.

Dash freefalling. Dash takes a lot of leg damage. Bad idea.

Three destroyed, mission complete.

126 tons of salvage saved my rear end.

Repair two, queue up some more weapons.

I sure could use better shields...

Avoid contact with cybrid patrols? God damnit.

Fifty Cent's next biopic.
Quick tactics check, are you deliberately playing up the misery factor here? The way I remember this game, plasma cannons and missiles were basically the stuff I strapped onto my Razor for strafing runs. Otherwise, I think relied on ELF and particle beam weapons at short range to quickly blow off HERC legs, because that way lies salvage. I mean, no poo poo you're short when you're not only blowing up HERCs with plasma cannons and missiles, but also saying goodbye to 50 tons of salvage every time you lose a plasma.

Mind, it's been like a decade since I last played this, so my advice may be scrub-tier.

No, you're 100% right. I was basically trying to get some explosion screenshots rather than 'and this dude fell over again' because which is more exciting?

This mission is so hosed. I tried it 6 times with different HERCs, with and without a teammate, and then finally went back to the old standby of MURDER EVERYTHING.

Dash fires up his HERC. Smith arrayed behind him to the left. The mission calls for speed and stealth. Skipping in there, getting data, then leaving before they are any wiser. That's not Dash's style...

Dash walks. And walks.

Incoming cybrids! Blow them away!

Two down, Smith never actually fired his weapon or tried to engage in any way. Dash took some decent damage, losing two weapons.

Dash walks a lot more and finally sees the enemy listening post.

Take out the gun towers.

Transfer aborted... because Dash stopped looking at the stupid thing. Who knew wireless signals in the future require line of sight.

Three enemies spotted. No way to outrun them (I've tried multiple times).

Transfer complete... now Dash can help Smith!

Great salvage thanks to the gun turrets and Dash not going all blowy-upy.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

Cybrid forces massing for an attack. Dash is told to lead his squad in a circle, clearing anything he finds.

Start lookin for things to kill, boys!

An enemy appears top left next to the waypoint indicator.

It took about half a second for Dash to shoot its leg off.

More boring walking.

Dash comes over a hill and finds 3 cybrids. They are not moving, and seem unaware of Dash.

They seem aware now. Dash shoots off a foot.

He engages the next enemy, Smith and Sanchez have hit it already (see the explosion).

The last one charges down the hill, Dash takes its motor out.

Another waypoint, another set of enemies.

God damnit, Sanchez is going to get in the way isn't he?

Well, not in the way of this one...

Dash stopped firing, waiting for the enemy to fall. Bad choice. This one had the shield booster, it takes a lot more punishment than Dash is used to.

Yep, that's Smith backing into Dash's line of fire from the left.

Seriously, Smith, move your poo poo.

Got it.

Without time to recharge his shields, two more enemies come pounding down the hillside.

Dash gets one.

The enemy with the extra shield really hurt. Time to walk some waypoints.

Enemy spotted after like 2 minutes of walking.

A single burst of fire from Dash disables the enemy.

Two more waypoints, no more enemies. Dash decides to call it a day.

Pretty good salvage, impressive weapons stolen.

Dash repairs, then goes to briefing. New energy pod? DEFEND THE BASE AT ALL COSTS.

By the way, you will only need a squad of 3 for this despite the fact it's the loving BASE WHERE THE 4TH SQUADMATE IS STANDING.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

3 cybrids approaching from northeast. Sanchez and Dash will head that way, Smith will stay behind in defense mode.

Sanchez is way faster than Dash. Sanchez is already heading over the hill-thing. Hope he doesn't die!

15 seconds later Dash arrives with guns blazing.

The close one is falling down, and Sanchez in the background just finished off his second kill with supporting fire from Dash.

Dash tells the team to meet back in the center of the base.

Incoming. Smith, you take these.

Whoops, more showed up. Sanchez, go delay them. Dash rushes to join Sanchez against the two enemies.

Dash lends a hand to Smith since there is a giant hill that he has to go around anyway. Sanchez is now rushing headlong into another 3v1.

Smith leads the way to help Sanchez.

Dash fires over Smith's shoulder for the kill.

Dash looks with surprise that Sanchez isn't dead already.

More bad guys? We're in the middle of a drat firefight.

Hint: The mission is not complete since there are 2 more alive enemies.

Smith goes one way, Sanchez and Dash head another.

Apparently Smith misunderstands (Dash can't work the drat map via keyboard and still take screenshots very well).

Smith steals a kill.

And that will do it.

Dash requested an Ogre class HERC.

Yep. Sanchez took a savage beating in that initial 3v1 and then the second 3v1 he walked into.

Dash adds the only energy pack to his own HERC. gently caress the other guys.

But he requests another be made for Smith.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

Dash immediately moves, no time to waste when we are supposed to be rescuing/escorting a dude.

Enemies appear just off the line to the waypoint. Dash and Smith engage.

Three in a line.

Smith gets the first kill. (rear end in a top hat).

Dash gets the second. The third kill happens too quickly to get a screenshot.

Looks like the friendly base is right around this corner and down a hill.

There it is. Where's the friendly?

Hiding in the back corner apparently. Dash waves hello, but the pilot sprints past Dash. He is in the same HERC, but the friendly must have a turbo pod.

Enemies approaching!

Oh man, Dash and Smith should reach that outcropping at the same time as the enemy. This will be an odd firefight.

Smith leads the way (barely visible on right) while the friendly runs for home.

Five cybrids pop over the ridge. God damnit.

Smith is too busy murdering the enemy and laughing to care. Dash takes down two with ease.

Suddenly it is all quiet with the friendly running into the distance. Dash and Smith try to catch up.

(4 minutes of running later)

Smith did awesome.

He took some damage and lost 2 plasma cannons, so I'm not exactly thrilled with his cowboy antics, but who is Dash to say anything?

LOOK! DASH BARELY TOOK A SCRATCH! FIRST TIME EVER!

Dash taps Smith on the shoulder and says 'giddyup'

Yeah I've been doing that for a while because I wanted to show explosions and parts blowing off and poo poo. One or two missions per sector are "go blow up a base" and get the salvage for the entire sector. Now I'm having to play smarter because the cybrids have three or four plasma cannons on the big boys which destroys a weapon or three every single mission, add in 30-40T of salvage needed to fix the damage to each HERC. So it's like 150T of salvage needed if we take a beating.

New update coming in a few mins.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004

Time to destroy our own property? Hell yeah!

Enemies are nearly within the base immediately. Dash and Smith engage.

They lace into Smith with everything they've got. Dash misses the leg completely several times, allowing Smith to get cranked by missiles.

But he got that one.

Listening post 1. Dash tells Smith to go destroy a different one. No sense hanging out together to walk up these stupid hills together in the future.

Turns out Dash can look at what kind of damage Smith has taken. Hint: It's a lot already.

Smith almost reaches his target, Dash finishes his second. Time to get to the next.

Smith sees enemies and engages. Dash is stuck on a drat hill with a mountain in the way. Better hope it's just one enemy because Smith is beat up already with no shields.

Listening post down.

Dash helps by blowing off a plasma cannon, Smith gets the kill.

Last post.

23 Tons of salvage. Smith lost ~170 in weapons alone, plus another 43 to repair his HERC.

God damnit, Smith.

WOOOOO NEW HERC

Just gotta look at what the enemies are, don't need to engage yet.

That would be nice, but Dash did not build a Razor. He decides to take the biggest HERCs possible with Turbopods on them. And Smith.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004
Alright, Smith. All we are here to do is look. We're not to engage, just look at things and use the turbo to outrun them.

TURBO ENGAGED FOR FUNSIES. 103kph, not bad at all! Almost double the normal speed.

Note Smith not keeping up with Dash's speed despite having a faster HERC and his very own turbo pod.

If Smith won't keep up with Dash, Dash has no choice but to destroy the enemy.

Smith says he has Dash covered, but judging by his "not even close to the enemy" location Dash is doubtful at best.

One down, Smith catches up.

Dash's shields took most of the damage, nothing to see here folks.

2000 meters to walk. AT 103KPH MOTHERFUCKERS

WOOOOOOOOO. Note the turbo is in slot 0, so I have to hit 0 on the keyboard to engage it. It recharges pretty quick so it's nice.

Bad guys spotted. Since Smith will not engage his turbo boost, Dash engages the enemy.

PEW PEW PEW oh there's one over there too PEW PEW

Number one crashes to the ground on the right. Number two is engaged.

Didn't even hurt Dash's shields this time. He's getting better with this particle beam thingy.

Okay, we're done fighting. From here on out it's a recon mission. NO MORE KILLING.

AAAAAAAAHHHHH KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT

Hey Smith, why are you a mile back? Dickhole.

The enemy is falling to the right.

This would be a lot easier if Smith helped.

They didn't say anything about a base up here.

Yep, definitely a base. Remind me to chat with Gierling about military 'intelligence'

You know what that looks like to Dash? Salvage.

Two down.

Anyone notice that huge loving cliff in front of Dash?

Neither did he. That'll be some structural damage for sure.

Seriously? Dash is loving stuck.

Got it. PEW PEW PEW

Go destroy huge base. Got it.

The squad starts right next to the base which is nice. Dash tells them to take out the two missile towers easily visible on the radar.

Oooh, a ramp lined with gun and other missile towers. Wonder whats up top?

Enemies spotted. Dash tells the entire crew to go destroy them.

Dash joins in.

All done those 3.

Okay, assholes, come form up with Dash at the entrance of the ramp.

Joined up.

Dash inches forward, destroying gun turrets as he can.

Enemies spotted!

FIRE AT WILL, DESTROY THE ENEMIES!

That's smith running into the distance. The only thing I can think of is he shot a tower along the top, spotted another, and another.... he spends the rest of the mission circling the drat base.

Seriously, look at him on the radar. Dash puts his head down in the display to tell Smith to get back here.

Dash finally looks up when Conner says something. Turns out he's been getting shot in the face.

Shields down. poo poo.

Two weapons down.

More weapons down.

3 lasers. That's all Dash has left. Faaaantastic.

Sanchez and Conner finally help out.

Look where Smith is. What an rear end in a top hat.

Dash finally helps. Sanchez and Conner are going hog wild blowing up buildings.

PEW PEW PEW

Ugh. That could have gone much better. :argh: Smith!

Dash equips the beat up HERC with whatever weapons he can scrounge up. The alarm sounds.

I honestly never was a huge fan of ES1 or ES2, the peak of the whole *Siege series was Starsiege to me(someone is gonna say "Tribes," but, honestly, that wasn't a loving *Siege game, I have no idea why they even tried to tie it into the same universe, it had literally no connection, no giant robots, nothing. Just some fluff and a mention of "bioderms" which were basically unrelated to Cyberstorm's bioderms, the goofy pod people pilots), with Cyberstorm a close second(mostly falling behind due to being buggy as poo poo, though not as loving buggy as Cyberstorm 2!).

I seem to remember some branching paths in ES2, and you mention them once or twice... do they actually change anything noteworthy or is it more of a "you hosed up and blew up the listening post instead of tapping it, now have twice the cybrids on your next mission"?

Sometimes if I fail a specific mission I might not get the Raptor II HERC, may not get Laser 500gw or the 100mm minigun for example. Letting the prototype Raptor II die is bad, and that is why the technology wouldn't get produced later in the game.

Sometimes it's just as simple as "well they pushed us back in the Omicron quadrant so now our backs are against the wall."

Maybe instead of locating the cybrid base and/or landing pods we have no idea where they are so the base gets attacked the next mission instead of going on a search and destroy mission.

Spermy Smurf

No enemies around. This is the worst "base under attack" ever.

There they are. Dash tells Smith and Conner to attack. Then 2 more show up on the screen for a total of 4. Dash tells everyone to engage and leads the charge himself.

Just on the other side of this gun turret mound.

Oh good. Conner decided not to attack and is now walking slowly well behind everyone else. Smith is far enough to be a non-combatant here too. Sanchez, however, is full of piss and vigor so he and Dash open up the PEW PEW PEWs.

2 Diablo class HERCs too. They're big and deadly.

One going down.

Two is down, legless and falling over. 3 is engaged.

Three is the explosion behind the rollbar on the left. Four is engaged. Sanchez did pretty well, but didn't finish it off.

More enemies appear. Dash tells the entire squad to engage. EVERYONE THIS TIME, CONNER. NO SKIPPING OUT YOU BITCH.

Dash cranks the turbo to catch up because using the navmap and communications slowed him down.

Dash leads the way again.

The enemy is focused on the base, Dash takes them entirely by surprise.

SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER

3 more appear on the radar as the latest cybrid falls to the ground.

Dash tells the entire crew to attack the left-most target. Dash heads to engage the others.

Coming over a hill, huh? Should be fun.

Middle guy goes down to two extremely well placed shots. Like seriously, this was the best shooting Dash has done all game. The cybrid goes down way up there.

Number 3 doesn't fare much better. Smith kills his single enemy.

New loading screen.

Radar towers (blue circles) will give Dash plenty of advanced warning.

Me too, Smith. Me too.

Dash tells Smith to go north, then Dash moves east to take out the other enemy.

Dash is too slow. One gun turret falls to the cybrid.

But that's all.

Dash uses his Turbo to lend Smith a hand.

And now they come from the west and east. Dash sends Smith to the East since he's closer, and Dash uses Turbo to attack the western enemy.

PEW PEW

Smith decided to come to Dash to form up. Dash targets another enemy and tells Smith to attack that one and stop trying to form up.

Good for you, Smith. Dash will add another kill to his total momentarily.

Holy hell that thing destroyed Dash's shields.

Dash had hoped for a moment to regain his shields, but that is not to be. Dual enemies approach from the north. Dash tells Smith to take the easternmost one, and then moves to engage.

Stupidly, Dash beats Smith here.

Dash does what he does best. Get shot in the face, and take down enemies.

One down on the left.

Two down. Two more enemies appear from the west. Dash has 0 shields, but has no choice but to engage.

Smith is told to help, but he will arrive too late. This is entirely on Dash.

Dash attacks. The cybrid to the left has free reign at shooting Dash's unprotected flank.

Dash's depleted shields fail in the opening salvo, luckily the cybrid is destroyed.

What weapons Dash has left open fire on the second cybrid.

Nice of you to show up, Smith.

Heading back to base to prevent further attacks.

Patch the team up he says. Dash just lost 200 tons worth of weapons. Shield pod, turbo pod, and 3 weapons.

0% hydraulics can't be good.

Smith lost his shield generator too. So that's 250 tons of salvage gone.

Gee, let me guess. Dash can only bring one friend and will be yanked in every direction.

TURBO MOTHERFUCKER. Gotta get there asap.

One enemy from each side. It's like Doc Holiday. "I got two HERCs, one for each of ya."

Dash turbos to catch his target. It is sprinting toward the downed pilots.

Dash can't catch it. Without Turbo this mission would be over immediately.

It never slows down to face Dash, so Dash shoots it from behind.

A glance at the radar shows that Smith has no idea how to run his Turbo button. Dash will replace it with a cannon next mission.

Smiths target has outrun him, Dash heads at an intercepting angle and cranks turbo. Smith is the white dot on the left, the downed pilot#1 is on the right.

Dash gets close enough, the cybrid turns to fight. It doesn't fight much.

Another enemy moving to attack pilot#2... Dash tells Smith to defend pilot#1 and turbos over there.

Dash flat out misses this target, shoots between the legs for a good 4 seconds and takes damage because of it.

Before he can gather his thoughts another enemy appears and is charging Pilot#2.

Pilot#2 probably waves to his rescuer as Dash speeds by. Wait, no he doesn't because his drat turbo got shot to poo poo.

Dash takes it's leg off.

WOOOOOOO gently caress YOU FLYING THING

Pilot#2 with Smith guarding Pilot#1 in the distance.

Nothin doin. Dash thinks the mission is over. It is not.

Enemies appear on all sides. Dash tells Smith to engage his target and turns 180 to face his own.

Oooh, that's a big boy. Haven't seen a Pit Bull in a while.

And that's an Achilles poking over the hill on the right.

Dash tells Smith to hurry up with his target and get his rear end over here. Things might get dicey.

No shields.

A lucky strike takes out the center chassis and disables the cybrid. Dash was aiming for it's other leg after already taking one leg off.

The achilles cybrid got a few decent shots in, Dash turns to fire back.

Dash sends Smith back to defend Pilot#1.

Just in time, too. Another Achilles is coming to attack Pilot#1. Smith engages, Dash moves over there slowly.

Hard to see, but Smith is blasting away with bullets and a missile in this pic.

Dash helps, Smith gets the kill.

Successful mission!

175 Tons... that repairs Dash's HERC and weapons, with about ~100 tons to spare!

Not even close!

Dash has not one. Not two. But three flyer kills.

Protect dual bases. Let me guess on this one: You can't bring any friends, do it yourself.

Ooooh, we get THREE squadmembers.

Dash opens the map and comms. "Okay, you two useless dillholes stay here and defend this area. Dash will go to the other plant."

Buzzing drone is spotted as Dash Turbo's to the other plant.

And that's 4 enemies. Dash runs face first into a wall of enemies.

I was wrong. That is FIVE enemies. Not four. God damnit.

One on the left is falling over, Dash is bringing his weapons around to the other one.

It's too soon in the fight to lose his shields... Yet Dash fights on.

Please die.

No enemies are near the base, so Dash tells Sanchez to come help out over at the manufacturing plant. Dash moves to cut off the two about to enter the plant. He has no real answer for the one that is already within the manufacturing plant destroying poo poo.

That's a 4th cybrid that just popped up on the radar to the left. Two dead ahead, one to the left within the base, and one to the right.

Dash attacks the one in back, then moves to the one running toward the base.

Those two fall to Dash's excellent aim, and Dash takes quite a bit of damage.

Two are in the base. Looks like a cliff in the way.

Yep, definitely a cliff. Probably shouldn't go over the edge....

Structural damage, broke the Turbo, and most of the HERCs legs are hosed.

But Dash got the enemy.

Smith for some reason decided to form up despite telling him to hold his drat position.

SMITH, DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM WITH LEAVING YOUR POST YOU STUPID rear end in a top hat?

Dash tells Sanchez to attack the enemy closing on the base that Smith abandoned.

And then Dash engages the last target inside the plant.

That last one is coming, and Dash doesn't have Turbo so this is gonna be a crawl up this hill.

PEW PEW

Dash races (slowly) back to the main base and catches another cybrid just as he destroys a building.

Dash returns the favor.

Dash takes the high ground, sending Smith to protect the base he just abandoned.

Apparently the drone is the last enemy left.

Smith is told to engage the flying unit. See that building on the right?

Smith shoots it. That is parts of the building on the ground. Idiot.

Without that building in the way, Smith gets the drone kill. Dash gets all the other kills.

"your squad"

By that they mean 3/4 of you will head out and head off an attack. No, don't bother asking why all 4 of you wouldn't go on such a critical mission.

Dash moves, finds an enemy. Attacks enemy.

Smith decides to help, but it's too late. Dash kills the enemy.

Another enemy moves toward the waypoint, Dash and crew give chase.

They catch it.

Dash loses a laser. 2 more enemies are split to the east and west.

Ouch already.

Dash needs to stop leading with his face.

Keep runnin to the waypoint.

Another enemy

Two enemies appear on each side.

Dash sends Smith and Sanchez to deal with one and heads to the other.

Okay, Smith. Good work. Now get back here because that round dome is more than just a single enemy.

Dash tells Sanchez to join him twice, because we all know Sanchez' hearing is a bit bad sometimes.

Two small cybrids are running away in the distance. They are running left toward the waypoint. Dash has no chance to catch them since he lost his Turbo.

Smith and Sanchez are sent to attempt to catch them.

Those are transports.

They have missile's on them. So running up to them and attacking is not a good idea.

Dash does it anyway because he forgot to park his HERC while telling Sanchez and Smith about the two new enemies that just appeared.

Dash gets the poo poo kicked out of him by fricken transports.

Smith and Sanchez engage the 2nd set of enemies. Thankfully they did what they were told... Dash has no weapons left.

Stop destroying Dash's weapons!

The entire squad is too far to help that lone blue dot (Most likely Conner, and the reason she was not allowed to partake in this mission. At least that's what I tell myself.)

Dash makes the trek to see who it is. He sees cybrid remains scattered around.

It must be Conner! Standing on the right amid the wreckage of slain enemies.

Ouch. Dash didn't do so well on this one.

Rendezvous with the friendlies, run following the waypoints. Ready for a 10 minute long boring-as-gently caress mission?

Run run run run run

Found the friendlies. Will wait at waypoint1 for them.

Enemy activity in the north. Sanchez, Smith, and Dash move to cut them down.

Attack!

PEW PEW

PEW PEW PEW PEW

One more!

Back to waypoint walking.

Seriously so bored.

I have 139 screenshots for this shittastic mission.

An enemy approaches! Dash goes to talk him into joining our side like that veliciraptor robot from the dino-transformers cartoon way back when.

Dash fails to talk him into switching sides. Those glowing balls are plasma cannons which are going to punch Dash in the face and hurt a lot.

Back to walking waypoings and holy poo poo I am so bored.

I just skipped 12 screenshots of walking to find this one. It's not even interesting.

Another enemy.

Same result. Then 12 more screenshots of walking.

2 pitbulls appear. Finally, something to do.

Firing begins in earnest.

Dipshit gets in the way.

2 Pitbulls go down.

That's Sanchez on the left getting a plasma cannon blown off his shoulder. The last cybrid is going down under combined fire from three of us.

Dash took a beating.

Sanchez is worse.

Dash's legs are messed up, so the Turbo doesn't work anymore.

Jesus christ are we done yet?

Dash did not do very well. Tried to keep him from taking damage, and the result is only 2 kills. Sanchez got the lions share of kills this mission.

I was wrong. Dash's HERCs legs are fine, the Turbo Pod is at 2% capability though.

So, are your wingmen actually supposed to get better as they rank up? Or is that entirely cosmetic? Because it actually feels like they're loving up more regularly as the missions go on.

They don't actually level up apparently. I swear Conner was a rookie at the start, but she's Veteran now. Sanchez has more kills than Smith does (or at least drat close) and Sanchez is still a rookie.

No idea.

Time for a new page. I believe we're coming to the end. We've got 2 missions in a row of "the base is under attack and we're screwed."

Lets get a new page and I'll post them both in like 16hrs.

I can't tell from the screenshots- but do you have your weapons linked at all? Between that and setting up various firing chains, it might be helpful.

Edit: The cannons will throw slugs beyond their official range- that was one of the ways I wound up taking out the towers/landing pods without taking too much damage.

I stopped linking the lasers and guns because once the shields go down and you are in the middle of a firefight it really hurts when Laser1 wont fire because its waiting on Laser2 to charge.

I dont do firing chains either, could never get the hang of that. Actually its sheer laziness. Maybe a mix of both.

And yeah, equipping a plasma cannon for distance hitting, then going to try not to explode all the precious salvage.

It helps if you pair up the weapons that are directly across from each other- same caliber, etc.

I would use the medium lasers with PBWs as second in the chain. The first shot of the PBW would drop the shields, letting the lasers mop up as I closed the distance. They'd recharge in time to finish off the foot or leg of whatever mech I had been working on.
