I hate big cities though. I'd have to live in a suburb outside, and to be fair I hate driving in traffic. I hate people in general. So the less per capita the happier I am usually, and Corvallis seemed most appropriate. Me and the wife could get jobs there I hope, since hospital management/administration doesn't sound too bad to me, and she's relegated to collegiate athletics.

I just visited Corvallis as a grad school option, and the city was part of the reason I am not going there. The coast almost made up for it.

Totally flat and filled with "#1 college bar lol go sports team!" style night life. The campus is a big state school campus. Maybe that's your scene, but it's not mine. I felt like I was in central Illinois again. There were yoga panted butts galore don't get me wrong. There were a lot of trucks and kids from rural Oregon, which demographic research verified. The town itself is quiet and lifeless, except for college kids coming in and out. My potential fellow grad students giggled about the "townies" (read: only real people) who "took over" a karaoke / line dancing bar on certain nights. Maybe I just hate students, period. Corvallis is small and boring and any character it might have is overwhelmed by the money and presence of thousands of rural college kids away from mommy and daddy. I'm a whiny hipster baby so keep that in mind. Would be overlookable if it weren't so loving small, and if the university hadn't inflated rent & mortgage values far above anything reasonable.
