I also immediately thought of Jacob's Ladder yeah. It was really a very true to life depiction of a nightmare, first things are normal, then you get apprehension when you vaguely know that something bad is coming, then the actual thing.

The first episode had that awful potluck lesbian woman. That was a good one. I liked how in the nightmare episode, the atmosphere is all weird when he wakes up and he says "oh no" when the doorbell rings, like he has a premonition that something awful is going to happen but he has no way to avoid it.
