I'd say discrimination is to hate. Or at least 'dislike' if one considers hate to be 'too strong a word'. I mean it said 'irrational' at the beginning of the entire definition.

But really, why should homo and trans be in a different category than arachno?

I think they hated the butch part. Butch is an attitude, not an orientation.

They didn't sound like they hated you. Just that you defied expectations of what they'd met before. I like Ellen Degeneres. I dislike Rosie O'Donnell. And it's about the attitude.

Flipping someone on what they thought before? I'd consider that a win. The fact that you came away from that feeling the opposite, sounds like you left major details about the story out, at the very least.
