What was the full equation for Peter Gregory's positive contribution to the world? It was something like the integral of his age to his net worth over yearly contribution to causes * other investments * hashtag #thankyoupeter tweets over all tech tweets in a given time. It was glorious.

I thought it was kind of empty that Richard just halved the offer and called it a day; Monica explicitly told him that even the lowest valuation he got (around 5 mil) was too high. The whole setup seemed like just a quick way for Mike Judge to make the rather trite point of "be careful what you wish for" rather than an actual plot point with consequences. (just so it's clear, I don't care either way, the episode was amazing).

She probably comes across that way because I'd imagine that Judge wrote the entire season before Christopher Welch died, and he didn't want to do massive rewrites and make her into a completely different character. He needed her to be more or less identical to Peter Gregory so that it'd be "believable" that she'd make whatever decisions that Peter Gregory would have made had he lived. I agree that she's playing up Gregory's ticks a little too much but it didn't take me out of the show the way it seems to be with some people in the thread.

Solid episode, minus the Peter Gregory replacement and Monica's terrible delivery of the "no that's not how he died" joke. That joke was just terrible.

I don't know I liked the replacement. Peter Gregory was very awkward and she's just very straight to the point. Her whole thing about sitting down vs standing up was hilarious to me.

WarLocke posted:... That was the joke, though? The joke was that she was bad at explaining it. I'm specifically talking about the delivery of it by the actress. It felt really forced that "obviously she's not going to explain how he really died". It felt to me that they were trying to make the Monica character funnier but the material needed a better comedian to deliver it. I guess I've never really seen Monica's character as one to say something that causes me to laugh so it felt out of place that she was given an actual joke.

I mean I get why the character is basically a gender swap and the actress is nailing it, and it's not a deal breaker for me but I just can't NOT think about it.

Except Monica came right out and said she was making decisions not at all like Peter Gregory. So business wise she's not him, manner wise she is, and some of her lines sounded exactly like things he would have been written to say. It's only been one episode and this show is pretty consistently fantastic, so I'm not too worried. I'm sure she'll come into her own.

While kinda similar to Peter Gregory, she was hailing from a different part of the spectrum. Also the fact that she was "objectively best" based on her portfolio instead of her ability to lead/socialize was on point.
