The entrance to MC was originally inside a different instance, Blackrock Depths, which was loving enormous at the time and could take at least an hour to reach, or at least before people discovered the shortcut.

I thought the TBC attunement was kind of neat, except for the rep grind and the need to do it again if you had multiple characters.
