Dogville is I think the most depressing of Lars Von Trier's movies, basically about a woman who is held hostage in a small town where everyone is complicit in her captivity and the abuse she suffers.

As they're reunited they continue the Nazi's perverse Mengele-like "experiments" while the nurse murders and/or dominates his charge's family members. It's bizarre and beautifully shot. So it's like a trippy version of The Night Porter? I have to see that.
