The official Korean government TOPIK-prep courses have already started a couple weeks ago so it's bad timing because you missed the registration for that... but worst case scenario, tutoring will always work. Ewha University has a good program (their Summer intensive course starts soon iirc) and you'll be surrounded by Japanese college-age women, if that's your thing. They emphasize talking and listening over everything else as opposed to the other University programs. It's expensive though. I think it was like 300? Or was it 700? I don't remember exactly but it was a lot. If you're new or beginner level, I'll be happy to tutor you over Skype or whatever if you want. I got an 86.5% on the TOPIK.

I remember the last time I heard the word 양키 irl. It was a few years ago when I was at the ice skating rink in the sports complex at 화정 in 고양시. Little middle school-looking kids whispered it to eachother as I walked by to get on the ice. Turned back to look at them and they immediately stfu'd and looked scared, like "oh poo poo i think he heard us".

You'll be in trouble because of this, unless the extra days were over a weekend or something. Probably you'll get told to go visit the side office and then the Immigration Officers will ask you some questions about it and check to make sure you're not a criminal or anything. From there, I don't know what will happen. It could be anywhere from "okay goodbye" to "you'll have to sit in a jail cell for a few days while we figure out what to do with you" depending on the circumstances.

DontAskKant posted:What are the rules about changing your address? I'm not on any housing contract anymore so I'm not sure if I can change it at the gu office. Yes you can change it at the gu office. That's actually the best place to do it because gu offices are nowhere near as busy as the immigration offices so you can take care of this very quickly. You go there, find the Residence desk or whatever (there are signs above it in English and Korean, or at least in Yongsan-gu of Seoul). Don't go to the desk yet, though. Just like in the Immigration Office, there are little desks with paperwork and whatnot in there. Find a form that says something about change of residence in Korean. Fill it out as best you can, then take a number and wait your turn. Once you get to the desk, show the guy or girl your ARC card, point to the address on the back, show him or her the form you tried to fill out, and assuming it was the right form then he or she will take care of the rest. The new address will be written in sharpie marker on the back of your ARC card but the important thing is that it's updated on the government computers. If you do this at the Immigration Office, though, then they'll take the card to the back room and laser print it or whatever on there for you so that it looks nice and pretty. The law or whatever is to do this earlier than 2 weeks (or was it 90 days? I don't know I haven't moved in a few years so I'm going off memory here) after you actually move, so yeah. No, I don't think so. Probably it's just like in America, where you only need to bring a letter addressed to you with the address on it. A bill or something. I don't remember ever needing that, but I'm sure that it won't hurt to bring it.

I haven't had to do the job search thing in this country for a while but I think it's a good time to find a new one. Ironically, I kind of feel like going back to teaching math. I kind of miss it. I've been out of that teaching thing for a while now. When do you guys think is a good time to apply for jobs for the new school year in January? Because all of the jobs I'm seeing right now are for last-minute September advertisements. I imagine that sending emails to these last-minute-hiring employers letting them know I'd be available for January won't really get me anywhere.

That's pretty unnecessary, considering it's just a 1.5-hour flight from ICN. This site says the subway doesn't run during those hours: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g298566-i2803-k7415236-Operating_hours_for_trains_subway_etc-Osaka_Osaka_Prefecture_Kinki.html This site says the first airport bus leaves the Umeda area (main downtown area) at 330-ish am when you click on one of the bus stops: http://www.okkbus.co.jp/en/index3.html Also, stay away from Kobe and northwest Osaka for the next few months. I read in the news that there is a lot of gang drama going on right now over there, so it's best to stay away.

If it means I'm paying $100 for a taxi from the airport then I'd definitely rethink things. I ran into problems finding accurate information last time I searched in English for public transit from there. wtf are you talking about? look here: https://book.flypeach.com/default.a...n-US&bLFF=false i think that maybe you're just really bad at making travel plans.

Our American phones don't use the 2100 mHz band. Buying burners? Public wifi + katalk? Our apartment comes with a portable hotspot which is great, but is less useful when we split up. Wifi is everywhere in this country. If you are in any touristy area of the city, there will be free public wifi provided by the city. If you're not in a touristy area, then I'd say about 75% of all businesses let customers use wifi for free. Of that 75%, I'd say about half of them are passworded so that you have to actually buy something. Also what the above guy said about buying an Olleh Wifi card at a convenience store works as well. The rate isn't very good imo but olleh wifi hotspots are literally everywhere in Seoul.
