I think this was a "cart before the horse" draft. We could afford a luxury WR pick but instead went #1 with it. Collins and Brown were sitting right there. BPA doesn't make sense when the best safety in the draft is sitting there and we don't even have a starting SS. The rest of the draft addressed some needs but the O-line never got touched (RG and RT are huge concerns) and run-stoppers are still in short supply. From another perspective, the Colts simply double-downed on their strengths rather than rounding themselves out.

Feels like Polian 2.0, though. "Who needs a defense when you can average 40 PPG?"

A lot of teams passed on Collins and most people didn't consider him the best safety in the draft. Collins and Brown both have flaws, they would have filled needs but aren't super studs. They really feel like Dorsett will add a game changing slot receiver to the offense, so we'll see if that's the case. I was shocked at first but warmed up to it after hearing all the talk about it. But the rest of the Colts draft after that has been great! We've drafted DL and Secondary, both needs, and got good players. OT had a big rush on it so they probably didn't want to reach too hard.

The way he's acted through the draft process seems like he's confident he'll be around to sign a contract next year in the next draft. I'm gonna hold out hope that he is an innocent man who got shafted by the timing of the case. He hasn't even been alleged to be the perpetrator of the murder yet, just a person of interest due to their previous relationship.

I think I heard someone on NFLN say that's when he's talking to the cops? Seems like if that's what's holding things up he would have gotten it done earlier so that doesn't sound right.

He doesn't get to go into next year's draft unless he challenges the NFL's CBA, which apparently has no language regarding this type of situation. That would seem like a pretty difficult case to win. He can sign as a UDFA right now but pretty sure that comes out of a limited pool

I'm ok with the Dorsett pick. People get too zoned in on what the draft means for the 2015 season - a good 1st round pick nets you ROI all the way through 2019. If you look at the Colts receiving threats, they are certainly stacked for 2015, but look beyond that:

Hilton - contract up after 2015
Fleener - contract up after 2015
Allen - contract up after 2015
Johnson - 34 years old, Colts may get only 0-1 productive years out of him
Montcrief/Carter/everyone else - completely unproven

If they truly think Dorsett was the best player available, it's a good pick. What separates the Colts from other teams is not an overabundance of talent, it's Andrew Luck, and making sure he has talented targets is priority numero uno. Mindless Blogger Short-Term Hole-Plugging (tm) says take Malcolm Brown or Landon Collins, but in 2016 and beyond the Colts may benefit from a good WR2 more than a good SS1.
