yes

in their defence (and i never thought i'd say this) they're a more stupid, populist form or racists than the outright murderous fascists we're seeing gaining ground on the continent

they're still terrible, but they could very possibly have been worse (there are other, worse parties with a blessedly low voter base)

they used to have a much better name: "Anders Lange's Party for a Strong Reduction of Taxes, Fees and State Intervention"

NKP won three elected posts in the 2003 municipal elections, two seats in the municipal council in Åsnes and one in Vadsø. The Åsnes branch, by far the party's strongest at that time, did, however, leave the party in 2004 to form Radical Socialists due to disagreements over the questions of religion, Joseph Stalin, and cooperation with other leftist groups.

yeah NKP has been moribound since the fifties, and even then most of the party left to merge with Sosialistisk Folkeparti to form what is now Sosialistisk Venstreparti, e.g. "Socialist Left"

they still manage to show up for may day demonstrations and stuff, it's good to see them around. they have the best logo in norwegian politics. me and some friends have considered joining en masse and staging a coup.

joss whedon doesn't understand class culture

this struck me as i watched whichever-it-was episode of firefly where that doctor fellow has a childhood flashback and they've got an 'estate' and everything and the dad is really stoked for his kid to become a doctor

that is such a middle-class aspiration that it's not even funny, no genuinely rich person would consider a career in medicine as some great achievement. sure, it's an acceptable choice if the kid is entirely uninterested in being professionally wealthy, but come on
