What are your thoughts on this classic? Did you ever play it? How was it like for you? I tried making my friend play it recently and it only cemented the idea that the first game is almost unplayable. Don't get me wrong, I deeply respect the series for what it did. It has some great ideas and it's true that the game was far ahead of its time, but I have no idea what they were thinking with when they decided that going around asking people things and waiting is fun. The second Shenmue is the best, imo. At least they added a Wait function. It has more stuff to do too. There will never be a third one

I guess that the most accurate description for Shenmue would be an action-adventure game. Things you can do in Shenmue include: talking to people, walking around, opening your notebook, buying toy capsules, fighting people (rarely), sleeping and... that's mostly it I guess.

I never played it but I got curious and wanted to get a dream cast and a bunch of Capcom fighters and Shenmue and random Japanese bullet hells but it was all way expensive than I anticipated so I didn't bother.

Real talk for a second you guys, Shenmue blew my loving mind when it came out, and to this day I have yet to see a game that emulates the level of detail and immersion that it achieved. I love this game, and its sequel.

of the many reasons I got a dreamcast I was probably most excited about Shenmue, and I hated it. chuchu rocket somehow turned out to be the game I liked most. I laugh now though every time I see the guy who says "tane lmfao" and has AIDS in Duncan's shemue fanfic.
