Invisible Inc: Door Closing Simulator 2054

Klei absolutely nailed the risk v. reward formula for this one. Every decision you make feels weighty and impactful. Do I spend my AP observing guards, or do I just try to move into a (hopefully) better position? Do I trigger this safe's daemon? I finished the objective early, should I just leave now? (Ans: go back and steal from every safe in the level)

I also love being an annoying poltergeist and leading guards on wild goose chases by strategically opening and closing doors. Spooky!

I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to KO them. The only way that happens is if the guard is armored, and it should mention that if you attempt to hit them. Unless you were set to ambush someone with armor.

EDIT: Are Omni soldiers the guys with 3 armor? Monst3r's gun and shock traps are the easiest ways I can think of without going crazy with augments.

Just had the weirdest final mission.

To start off, the two key rooms were literally one room away from the starting room, as well as right next to each other. Incognita is getting really good at teleporting!!

"Where is that hacker?? Probably not behind that giant computer that's being hacked!! :downs:"

I almost feel cheated?

Anyway, trip report on Central+Monst3r+Faust+Brimstone: absurdly fun. I was most excited for daemonic reversal, but it doesn't really happen that often. It's a nice surprise when it does, though. What this setup offers is overflowing amounts of power. You almost welcome daemons, just for the power increase. (Except for Paradox, gently caress that guy.) Monst3r is decent, he's got his ammo-less gun and high hacking skill. I wish his augment was more interesting, though.

Dr. Xu is probably straight up the strongest agent. The ability to ignore firewalls and daemons on safes saves you so much power it's insane. He's boring though so I don't use him.

Internationale is great, too. Just walking around exposes a wealth of devices begging to be hacked. Good thing you've got all that power from consoles. As a bonus, you can entirely avoid going into those closets with like a camera and a single console.

EDIT: Ping has saved my hide more than once, and Wisp is more than worth it just for the no-AP observe. Permanently tracking all guards? Holy poo poo.

I think that laser walls deactivate for 1 turn if they trigger, so you could eat it with one agent and then medgel them after.

But yeah that kind of work-around shouldn't be needed and the level generation could be better.

EDIT: In the podcast, they talk about how the non-mission critical stuff is integral to the game, because they force the player to make a risk-reward decision. I guess that's why these corps keep their money in safes scattered around the level instead of like, Switzerland or something.

Detention centers early, if at all. It takes time to get an agent up to speed. Save ~1000 before going to a server farm, ~1500 before attempting a nanofab. Get someone to anarchy 2 quickly, it's nice to steal from guards without having to knock em out. Always hack camera drones, it's two turns of free exploration! Think twice before opening a door on 1 AP, even if you want to peek around the room. I have never been able to find a use for a lock decoder.

One cool place to hide in a room without cover is right next to a guard. Guards close their eyes when they turn around for some reason. This will not help you, however, when another guard appears through the door you didn't check and sees you standing beside his buddy.

You won't miss her as much as you think you will. She is sort of a crutch and will definitely make you lazy when it comes to checking for cameras and planning out paths to hit the consoles. There are lots of other good combos that are worth giving up easy hacking for.

Edit:
This current Endless run is brutal. I got Sharp and Archive Xu, with Fusion and Brimstone as my starter programs (random start) With no EMP punch, an overly expensive hacking program, and some bad luck on console offerings, I am on day 4 with still nothing but brimstone to do all my hacking. 3 power for one firewall when everything starts with 2 or 3 means that I cannot open much of anything but the bare minimum of safes unless I want to use Xu's emp bomb, and that has an 8 turn cool down.

I was up to 4 agents after I added Nika and Banks, but I just lost Sharp on a mission to grab an info list when I got swarmed by half a dozen guards. I was so certain that Xu was a goner I evaced Nika and Banks before Xu was even out of the executive terminal room (I had to bail without the list because I just couldn't get enough power together to knock down the 5 firewalls it had by the time I got to it. Xu made it out against all odds, but I couldn't snag Sharp or his gear on the way out, so there went a much needed disrupter, and the three augs I had stuck on him.

Now Day 5 is hours away, I have no money, I'm down my most upgraded agent, I still have poo poo programs, and I have a single AP disrupter. Things are looking great.
I hope you've managed to reverse a daemon at least :)

The game just taught me a lesson on hubris, a.k.a. "I don't need any armor piercing, I'm gonna ghost through every level!" Well, on this particular level, the only way out of the starting area was the narrowest, barest hallway I have ever seen, patrolled by two guards with armor. Through some... creative running, I managed to distract them enough to get all three of my agents past them, but at that point, the alarm level was way past 2. On my way out, I passed the exit teleporter, and I briefly considered leaving then and there. As it turned out, the executive terminal was on the other side of the level, and to get back to the exit meant having to get past the armor guys again, as well as a dozen enforcers.
Yeah, I hosed that up

I think I might prefer the TAG gun now, just because I usually use up all of Incognita's slots, but I agree, tagging makes guard evasion almost trivial. Whenever I have to stun a guy I just tag him so that there's no surprises.

I have the most ridiculous run right now. Started with seed and parasite, picked up data burst on my first mission. I'm running Xu and Prism, both have the melee penetration augment, Prism has two of them and I just picked up a full suite of OP as gently caress programs. I have an extra neural disrupter, a penetration rifle, two extra chargepacks and a spare ranged penetration augment and I have 23 hours left. Haven't had a holding facility show up yet though, which is worrying but I feel like this is the run I win experienced.

Yeah, detention centers are probably a good idea. Even with no upgrades, the extra agent will be useful in the last mission just for running around and distracting guards.

Just finished Expert Plus with Archive Banks and Archive Internationale! You'll get an absolute shitton of money with these guys. Imagine: every console is a safe; every guard is also a safe. I decided to spend my cash on Speed, and it really helps in this mode! You pretty much have to peek-open-peek through every door, and the extra buffer of movement guarantees that you'll find a place to hide if someone catches you peeping. It also helps you get in those hard-to-reach places to pickpocket guards.

I went with Fusion and Parasite for some reason. It's a bit tight at the beginning, but if you manage to conserve power you'll have a comfortable amount for later on. Luckily, I also found an Abacus, which helped a lot when I decided to upgrade to Parasite v2.

It seems like the econ chip is key to a lot of people's Expert+ runs. I myself like the freedom of choosing between power and money, depending on my needs at the time. I never get it from nanofabs, though. $800 seems like a huge investment.

I picked up Abacus because of Fusion, really. Once you hit that first turn fusion, you're not going to be able to use anything stronger than Parasite for a while, if you don't have Abacus. EDIT: My final loadout was Fusion, Parasite 2, Lockpick 2, Taurus, Abacus 2

Emergency Reserves seems flat out better than Abacus to me. +5 power on the next turn when you dip below 3 power, 3 turn cooldown. I always use Seed though, which is a lot easier to maintain at low power. Never seen Abacus 2, though.

I probably would have gotten it if I had a chance to. Anyway, Abacus lets me use Parasite 2 on the first turn, which cuts down on sitting around if there happens to be a camera preventing your progress. Abacus 2 gives +6 starting power, it's a decent buffer!

So what are some good/fun combos people have found? I'm still working my way further and further into experienced and trying to wean myself away from the basic settings and powers because the free cloak and wireless just seem so insanely strong, and I'm way more comfortable with the predictableness of Powerdrip and Lockpick than the other stuff which seems aimed at specialised types of runs.

People have said words about Seed, but I'd like to say that it helped me get out of my "comfort zone" of needing to have constant, guaranteed power gain. Also, it's nice to get into the "rhythm" of hacking one thing per turn. Use with Prism or Archive Internationale if you are still unsure. Prism + seed also feeds off/counters annoying plastech hackerguards, which is a nice bonus.

Finally completed Expert+ Ironman. I took someone here's advice and just went balls to the wall lethal for the final mission. Shalem with just a piercing scanner is brutally effective. The level tends to be made up of huge rooms with tons of cover, so it's perfect for camping somewhere and taking potshots at soldiers. I think I went through 3 charge packs on that mission.

I'm not sure if they added new decor in the update or just because I never got this far in Endless before, but I really like the tatamis in Sankaku levels. Also I'm loving the new Felix daemon, just because I can now spam trigger daemons with Central with no fear of losing cash.

Wait, you can turn off sprinting in the middle of a move? I thought it was all or nothing for a turn. Hm...

Heads up: you can only toggle sprinting when you have >= your max AP. For example, if you've got 8AP and sprinting takes you up to 11, you can turn off sprint any time your AP is still 8 or more. I'm not sure how this interacts with "bonus" AP (from stims, augments)

Just beat the extended campaign on Expert+! and oh boy, what a slog. I think it would have gone better, were it not for my poor program choices. To start with, i had dynamo (+2 power every turn past alarm level 2) and rapier, I'm not sure why. Maybe I thought it was good? (it's not good.)
i spent the second half of the campaign trying to fix my unoptimal decisions, and somehow ended up with cycle (power each turn is set to 3), which as i found out is even worse than dynamo. Cycle is probably the single hardest program to use in the game. It is crippled by root (-1 power, so you start with 2 power) and it does not work with the +1 power augment. It is a huge liability. I couldn't even use half of my programs if I didn't find a terminal that turn. Possibly it works well with parasite or something, and 3 guaranteed power every turn is probably the biggest raw power output, but it is so awkward

That said, after I got Draco up to max hacking, it went kind of smoothly from there? I had hunter and wrench 5, meaning that if I found a terminal, I'd be guaranteed to crack those 5-firewall daemon'd devices (3 cycle + 1 terminal + 5 hacking = 5 hunter + 4 wrench). And you can cover a lot of ground at alarm 0 with rapier. But it's a lot of trouble to go through, and I'm not sure it's worth it! I hacked a server terminal almost every mission, I think, and I had to pass up so many cool-looking programs because they cost more than 3 power.

DLC good: programs! railgun! daemons! wow! Draco's a beast! Young gladstone's augment is clutch! Multi-turn cloaks (I don't know if cloaks were always multiple turns)

DLC bad: Beating the campaign only gave me the expert+ achievement, and not the experienced nor the expert one!

Yeah, but I sold my original powergen program for Cycle, so I was kinda stuck with it. I guess I could have sold Cycle, but then that's me relying solely on finding terminals for power. The smarter strategy would probably have been to make a beeline for any server farms or executive terminals, but oh well!
