Sapkowski could write first travellers being less of assholes toward elves, more druidic type. Then most of them could go and settle Zerrikania.

Witcher 3: a game that made me buy 1060 6GB at launch and 2080 when I got high resolution and refresh rate monitor. 3080 next to get all those glorious reflections maxed?
E: just checked and 1060 was released after W3, must be getting senile. I remember getting the card mostly for w3 and Total War series though.

700$, seems crazy for something beating 2080ti handily.

Yeah, MSRP, so depending on how much control nV has over other manufacturers and how scummy retailers will get it might be higher for months.
Still, nV will release their founders edition cards at that price, and it looks like their cooling design will be pretty great.

Probably, but my guess would be it will look like regular W3 with some texture mod.

Well, guess it's time for a replay after the new patch. I stopped at the beginning of Blood and Wine but it's been too long, gotta start a new game now

We have no timeline. It might hit the new consoles launch timetable, or maybe later. I suspect they will take some time.
I wonder if that means Red Engine is so mature that dev work done on CP2077 could be easily leveraged to get W3 updated and they just went with it.

I don't recall it being in the books, but we can safely assume Jaskier might have ended in there after he had to GTFO from Toussaint.

alex314

Can't overemphasize how nice Toussaint is. I've used to just ride around at leisure pace from quest maker to another just enjoying the views. And people having problems more in line of "how to get ancient viagra" instead of "should we let the tree monster purge the weak"..

I'm doing NG+, by the later part of the game I was ridiculously overleveled and did a signs/sword build without any specific specialisation, mostly since signs were crazy powerful at launch. Which build is the best now?

alex314
Nov 22, 2007

Thanks, I'll try that. Signs ended up really repetitive: pop Quen, then Igni or that purple one depending on the enemy. Or later in the game "frozen Aard massacre" every fight against humans.

Replaying the game after all that time I feel like all CDPR needs to do to make it look modern is some better light model and remove that crazy hair/medallion collision effects.

I just discovered that Adam Skorupa, the guy who led the music team for Witcher 1 and 2, also did the music for Iron Harvest as part of Music Imaginary. That's cool. I like his stuff; his "The Witcher" theme is iconic.

Also on the topic of music and Skorupa I just realized now, six years later, that the sneaky theme that plays around the members of the Lodge is an arrangement of the female vocalist for the Assassins of Kings theme.
I really enjoy W3 concept song he did, but that didn't end up bought by CDPR

Probably the best reference noone in the west, and most people outside Poland (and maybe Lithuania an Belarus) will miss is the Pellar doing the night conjuring.

I've read a book that argued Slavs didn't have any pantheon of gods outside of some nature spirits and ancestors stuff, and only came with the pantheon we're roughly familiar with after meeting with Germanics.
I don't know how much proof is behind that theory but I like the idea of some dude finally getting to understand their shouty, humorless neighbors and going "That Doner dude sounds cool, let's have one of those but call him Perun".

It's one thing to go after a nest of Drowners or Griffins, but completely other to hunt one of lower Vampires like Bruxa. And as mentioned it doesn't even take into account mostly game enemies like Wraiths.
Then there's an economic calculation: you might arm a bunch of locals, but every dead one won't add into workforce. Same with soldiers - get the local garrison decimated and replacing them might take a decade to find and train. It's vastly better to task the travelling specialist. If he dies then at worst the monster has been fed, and at best they took each other.

alex314
Nov 22, 2007

Offloading extra male orphans seems way easier than feeding, clothing and training them yourself. And with mages you invite another headache of being reliant on an entity that might request something more than gold and occasional child.

E: also Witchers tend to put quite some of that gold straight back into local booze and wenches economy.

alex314

There are 8 Witchers mentioned in all of Sapkowski's books. 4 of them didn't survive until end of the book cycle..
Apparently there are additional 25 Witchers mentioned in the games, with 15 mentioned dead. That 15 doesn't include Witchers that can die according to player's choices. Pretty deadly profession..

The story is shown in a better way, Nilfgaard is less of a death cult loons. But I can't think of any change from the books that was better in the TV series. The ending in Kaer Morhen sucked pretty bad. As a fantasy series it's still ok, just falls short of source material.
