I'm about 3 hours in and I'm yet to find a place that lets me choose what happened on Witcher 1 and 2. I don't know if I've messed up right at the start, because "Simulate Witcher 2 Save" is as ambiguous a prompt as it can be.

Without spoilers, I've completed the tutorial, walked into a bar and then wandered around a bit doing sidequests and ignoring the main quest.

Thanks. You mean the first "real" area, right? Not Kaer Morhen.

Another thing I forgot: Items in the "Junk" category are either for selling or dismantling for crafting components, according to the tooltip. How do I break them down?

Well looks like that unique gwent card in white orchard isn't sold anywhere else. I didn't want to finish that quest anyway.

Now I have to restart. I hope you're happy. At least I won't sell the starting armour this time.

Also, anyone had any luck finding 2 Emerald Dusts in the starting area? I think I only found one, and 500 gold hurts at that point. Related to that, are all the interesting things marked by '?' on the map, or is it worth it to explore empty areas?

Apparently you can keep on upgrading it as the game goes on. Also it doesn't make you look like a twat. Striped gambesons are silly.

EDIT: This thread moves fast.

What do I get from playing cards with the scholar in the first inn? Just Zoltan's card? I'm not sure if this is what people mean by buying cards from him before Vesemir bullies him out of his table.

Decided to wander up a bit to annoy the Chamberlain before the audience with Emhyr, missed a step and committed suicide by falling off the stairs. Let that jerk explain that mess to the Emperor :colbert:

Fake Edit: I'm pretty sure the spoiler is unnecessary, but I'm paranoid.

How do I get a Monster Lair to turn grey on the map? I thought I might have had to loot everything and then it would go, but I've been through it with a fine-toothed comb and it's still white. Annoying.

You need some bombs that can destroy monster lairs (Grapeshot and another one can, IIRC) and a trigger should appear when you're on top of the lair. Geralt drops the bomb in there and you can loot the nest afterwards.

I don't think that you need to have bombs available in your inventory (it doesn't spend one of your two bombs if you have them).

Yeah I've seen monster nests, the ones that look like a pile of sticks and gore above ground, this is like a mini-dungeon. I'll try and find something to blow up, might be on top of the hill it was under.

Is there a reliable way to make Geralt enter combat, especially at range? I'd really like to use my reflecting arrow skill, but more often than not Geralt seems to think sniffing at the enemy with his enhanced nose is a much idea than attempting to block something. It's really loving frustrating.

Draw your sword with 1 or 2 and you can block, I think.

This happened to me as I was following the Chamberlain. I hope the pompous rear end was suitably punished for letting an important guest wander off and die with 20 stolen books stuffed inside his stylish black doublet.

Ok, how do I stop the bloody werewolf in Wild at Heart from regenerating? I can his wolf escort easily, but as soon as he starts regenerating I can't outpace his healing.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for later monsters.

Fire didn't work and I didn't have Moon Dust, but hitting it a lot of times with reckless disregard for my own safety did the trick. After 10 attempts. It would have been better if Geralt didn't insist on sheathing his sword halfway though.

This game is great. It's making me ram Roach into a tree to avoid running over a child, while I will merrily drive on the sidewalk on GTA. Because I loving care.

Plus it's full of neat details. I was in a dungeon with a companion, wander off to explore a side path, got laughed at because I decided to take a swim instead of doing my job and found my companion sitting down on a rock waiting for me.

And now I have a flamethrower. :stare:

On the other hand, I've found some looters that offered to sell me a sword. I drew mine, they went hostile and now I have a new sword. It's the only time I've really felt I was "gaming" the system.

I'm trying to reach a Point of Interest in the southern part of the Velen map. Is south-southwest of a giant tree that's sitting on the top of a mountain. The three seems important because, you know, big, so I'm thinking that the POI is locked up behind Plot. Is there any way to reach it that I'm missing, or should I ignore it for now?

So I've completed (or at least visited) all the '?' marks on Velen.

Word of advice: don't. Do it until you feel ready to move on, or spread that poo poo out within major quests, or jump between the three areas, but don't try to 100% each area. It get's boring after a while and the rewards aren't worth it.
