Carly shook her glass, willing the ice to melt. "You still haven't told me what the mission is."

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

I think Ridley Scott did the best thing he could with Prometheus. Instead of presenting some fanservicey beat-for-beat retread of Alien like all modern reboots do, he took it into a totally unique and weird direction that was at least ambitious, even if I don't think everything worked perfectly. Basically don't hire Scott to direct if you want the same movie over and over, Ridley gonna Ridley.

It still took a lot of beats from Alien though.

It absolutely did. Where Alien took B Movie cliches and plot points, and made it about rape, sexual violence, and feminist issues. He did the same thing with Prometheus and took the slasher genre and made it about the existence of god, and the relationship between god and man. They both used different areas of Horror films to tell a bigger story and convey more weighty ideas.

I know bringing up Prometheus can sometimes start a firestorm around here, but if Scott's Blade Runner sequel is as thoughtful and well made as Prometheus I'll be perfectly happy with it.

This, a thousand times.
