As far as tinted windows, the CV has them, and I'm glad of it. The dealer installed tint on my wife's Kia started peeling from the bottom on the passenger front, so I'll need to get that taken care of soon. I tinted my '79 RX-7 myself, with 5% Gila brand tint from Wally World. It's actually held up fairly well - purpled just a bit, but not noticeable from outside. That said, 5% is too dark on the side windows at night. Never got around to doing the rear hatch (curved!) so there's that. Need louvers there, really.

The past two days have been in the CMM room at a blissful 20c, doing what I love. Out of the 50 or so parts I've run so far, one has almost been good. They're some little thing for a Dick Cheney related company that apparently fails too much. We farmed these things out to another company since 1982 and apparently, they've never checked in tolerance. Mostly because the tolerance (imperial) on one feature is .00015 for cylindricity, .0005 for perpendicularity, and another cylindricity for .0002. The closest one got to passing is .00016 cylindricity. Further, the envelope of uncertainty for this task has been calculated to about .000005. My machine's standard deviation while qualifying on the artifact is .000001. I have no idea how we've been shipping poo poo parts for 34 years and getting away with it, but for gently caress's sake, we need to charge more money for these loving things. It's a stupidly tight tolerance for what it does, and we should have no-quoted. On another front. I got word from the other side of the shop that I do, e-beam welding, that the project I finished up on time with no non-conformances and barely within the time specced (for a first time run, no less!) didn't make us any money The sales guy didn't get with the customer to adjust the estimates so instead of 2.75 hours of setup, .5 hours of run time each (gently caress e-beam forever), he quoted 2 hours of setup, .5 hours of runtime, for 12 pieces There is no way in hell I can clean, draw together, torque to 250 ft/lbs, load, indicate, and draw vacuum on a 17 foot long part in one hour. I made three of those a day, and they still bitch. Turns out that 17-4 inconel hardens up like a motherfucker when welded, even when the heat affected zone is tiny like with e-beam. The weilers missed the estimate by 100% on hours to cut the new API box on the parts. So if they quoted 4 hours to cut the box, they took 8. I really wish the dickheads in the shop office would come onto the floor and spend time with the people making the parts so they understand how long precision takes.
