So for people who haven't been paying attention to the Kentucky governor race this year (probably 90% of people), Matt Bevin just won the GOP primary. This is a big deal, because he ran against McConnell last year in the senate primaries, and they both talked mountains of crap about each other, and Bevin never bothered endorsing Mitch even after he conceded defeat.

But now that Bevin is the gubernatorial candidate facing Jack Conway, he's been trying to do damage control/re-write history, and say that he was in fact a huge supporter of McConnell all along.

And to make his point, he showed this incredible video at a Republican rally just a couple days ago: https://vimeo.com/129301130

So while the timing is a little off this is still probably the funniest thing I've ever seen from a Republican. Pro-click???

Sample quotes from a 2006 article:

"It's almost everything. That's why we hire good-looking people in our stores. Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don’t market to anyone other than that."

"Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong."

The quote you're thinking of seems to be attributed to an 'anonymous brand manager': "Abercrombie & Fitch doesn't want to create the image that just anybody, poor people, can wear their clothing. Only people of a certain stature are able to purchase and wear the company name."

They're more exited about more visas. I am to the right of the forum when it comes to amnesty, but its a preety small issue to me. Especially since I recognize you actually have to punish people who hire illegals. Which I recognize isn't happening, so I side with liberals because at least you guys are rational.

[*]The IMF came out with a pair of interesting reports recently, including one which suggests that Wall Street costs the US 2% of GDP growth each year

This was a really good article buried in the OP, pointed out by SnakePlissken on the first page of the thread.

quote:

“Wall Street is back,” says the New York Times, and the economic cost is high. The excessive financialization of the U.S. economy reduces GDP growth by 2% every year, according to a new study by International Monetary Fund. That’s a massive drag on the economy–some $320 billion per year. Wall Street has thus become, not just a moral problem with rampant illegality and outlandish compensation of executives and traders: Wall Street is a macro-economic problem of the first order.

*******************

Problems occur when the financial sector gets too big. When the financial sector loses interest in the “boring” returns from financing the real economy and instead devotes its efforts to activities that are more lucrative in the short-term, like playing zero-sum games, or even negative-sum games, through complex transactions aimed at making money out of money, then excessive risk-taking occurs, with mis-allocation of human and financial resources and periodic financial crashes.

Not an article I would expect to find in Forbes.

On a different issue, this article in Mother Jones is about Brownback and the Kansas GOP controlled legislature attacking the Kansas Court system. The Kansas Supreme Court ruled that school funding was not equitable and a lower court found the entire system inadequate, ordering the State to correct it. Instead of correcting the system, which would require raising taxes, Brownback and the GOP have decided to destroy the Courts. It's a small version of what many GOP members of Congress are saying needs to be done at the Federal level. The most chicken poo poo plan is to:

quote:

expand the grounds for impeachment of a Supreme Court justice to include such ambiguous misdeeds as "attempting to subvert fundamental laws and introduce arbitrary power," "attempting to usurp the power of the legislative or executive branch of government," and "failure to adequately supervise subordinate employees."
