I wouldn't exactly watch Game of Thrones or Banshee or Spartacus with them either, and they actually have a significant frame of reference on those shows so they agree with me on that.

It's my apartment, and my big rear end TV, I'll watch what I want on it. If anyone I know were to come in and make fun of what I'm watching, I'd tell them to get the hell out of my apartment. My mom doesn't care what I watch anyways, and my older brother would watch some of the shows I got on if he wasn't living in South Korea.

I started renting anime from my local store when I was like 8. Started with Akira and followed it up with bubblegum crisis. Including a few other random things too (something called madox 01) but I would get super paranoid about my folks walking in at the one 5 second scene of tits. Of course it happened anyway. I think it was episode 2 of bubblegum that has a "suit up" scene. As soon as I realized what was on the TV my dad walked by and that made watching anime very difficult for the next ten years.

One of the few times my parents ever watched an anime was Cowboy Bebop. Specifically the mushroom episode. "The gently caress are you watching?" And the dog ate some mushrooms so everyone else just sat down and watched it too.
