There has been a lot of great television, in all genres, over the years. But even though there are several series that clearly stand above the rest, I’ve been struggling with the question of what are the best stand-alone episodes ever made? The way I’ll put it is, if you had to choose only one episode (or two-parter) that could be the only TV show you could watch for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A couple possibilities for me:
- Seinfeld – The Bottle Deposit
- Star Trek the Next Generation – The Best of Both Worlds
- The Office (US) – Travelling Salesman / The Return

There are other great episodes from serial dramas, like Ozymadias from Breaking Bad. But I’m not sure if it would be as enjoyable to watch without the context of the rest of the series.

Anyway, I am genuinely interested to see what other people might choose.

I'd like to add the Lemon tree episode of The Simpsons.
