So does the horse now get to spend the rest of his years on a farm somewhere loving as many mares as he wants/getting jerked off for his winning semen? Asking for a friend.

The Thoroughbred industry doesn't really do artificial insemination, so the former yes. Starting next year anyway, hopefully we'll get to see him in the Breeders Cup before then.

Shimrra Jamaane posted:Why are horses only good for one year of racing? Breeding rights. Seriously, usually you see the geldings race at 4-7 years. Get in, pump up the horse, get them into a sex pasture. Repeat as needed.

But why are they no longer good for breeding if they race for another year?

Shimrra Jamaane posted:Why are horses only good for one year of racing? They're actually better at racing at ages 4-7 than they are at ages 2-3. Breeders Cup races are more intriguing from a competitive perspective. But obviously the Triple Crown is the pinnacle of grandeur, you need to be a three year-old to enter the Triple Crown races, and if you perform well in Triple Crown races your semen can be more valuable than your future earning capacity.

Shimrra Jamaane posted:But why are they no longer good for breeding if they race for another year? It's a matter of finance; the good stallions will make more money in a year of breeding than a year of racing. It's common for geldings to race for years because they don't have any potential breeding money to lose.
