Random Jesse Ventura talk. The guy has had a pretty interesting life, being a former Navy Seal (and specialising in something pretty hardcore but I forget what), to being a pro wrestler, to a commentator (he was awesome at this too), to an actor (in several films with Schwarzenegger), to the Governor of Minnesota, to a conspiracy theory expert, to now being a man who lives off the grid in Mexico. Also, interesting of note were his films with Schwarzenegger. The two had a rivalry of sorts where Ventura would take joy in trying to one-up Schwarzenegger. Examples of this included when on the set of Predator, while they were getting measured for their costumes, Ventura noticed that his biceps were a couple of inches larger that Schwarzenegger's. A fact that Jesse would brag about in interviews. Another Predator example was how Ventura found out that Schwarzenegger would get to the gym every morning before filming at 6am, so Ventura would go in at 5:45am, splash some water over him, and walk into the locker room at about 6:05am saying "Oh, just getting in now, eh?" Then there was his show Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura which was so silly. If you get the chance to see it, it's ridiculous.

Bars and titty clubs. Arcade games were not just at arcades. A lot of different types of establishments would have 1 or 2.

Okay, so apparently Konami made a series of games called "Parodius" which is basically a weird rear end version of their other series "Gradius". This one in particular is called, "Sexy Parodius". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5V_k8egwsI This game not only has lots of sexual imagery, but some disturbing sexual imagery that only the Japanese could pull off. That Corn loving thing on the border art? It's from this game, and it's weird as gently caress.

Qix is the granddaddy of the "draw lines to cut out pieces of real estate" genre, though it was too primitive to involve uncovering a background. And according to the Wikipedia page, "Gals Panic" was a clone of Qix and "started a subgenre of adult-themed "uncover the image" games."

Up today, we got a game called, "Melty Blood". If you're familiar with fighting games, you may know of this one. Speaking of fighting games, here's a piece of poo poo that no one has ever heard of. Okay, long post coming, so apologies in advance. I believe Melty Blood started out as a PC game that eventually got traction and got sequels and updates, with Act Cadenza finally getting an arcade release. It's pretty much the precursor to modern anime airdasher games like Under Night In-Birth and Dengeki Bunko. It's still got a cult following though. Alleged story about Noel Brown is that he got arrested for two things before an incident at a tournament where his ex girlfriend was going out with another guy in the fighting game community. Noel, not being happy about it decided to punch both of them, got arrested again, and then ended up in prison. That's where the "Noel Brown beats women" reference comes from. He was in the FGC news a few months back after being smart enough to feel a girl's rear end on stream at a major tournament while the organiser was trying to get a big community photo. This led to Brown being banned from that particular tournament for two years, and being banned from any Capcom Pro Tour event for the rest of the year. Serves him right. Problem is, he's friends with a bunch of major figures in the community, so he'll be back and appearing on stage (as a "coach" and not as a player) once the ban is lifted. And I agree with the fighting game community being full of assholes. So many people talk themselves up to be massive threats in games and about how amazing they are, and then they turn out to be terrible in the grand scheme of things. I can be snobbish about certain things (mainly VF related when I see people doing things that aren't wise), but I'm not the kind of person to go around verbally slagging someone off for putting in work on something. If you make a video and the content isn't great, I'll try and give constructive criticism. Most people in the community will just go "You suck, scrub". Was the fighting game with water in the title you mentioned Aquapazza? I know that's one of two fighting games with all schoolgirl rosters (along with Arcana Heart, and Kira in that game's thing is her big watery-gelatinous being she fights with). I've never played Aquapazza though. I believe Persona 4 Arena was on Taito Type-X2. It was the same board as KOFXII and XIII, along with several (if not all) of the BlazBlue games. The board was essentially a modified Windows XP box, and the games were fairly easy to crack that they were leaked on PC as standalone programs. If you can find them, you can probably easily get them working. Fighting game that features a polar bear? Is it Sonic the Fighters? I see Bark in the screen borders... As for Chinese Exorcist, I'm not going near that. That's Guardians of the Hood levels of idiocy right there. If you want a very silly fighting game however, go with Blood Warrior. I warn you that fighting against Benkei will infuriate anyone.

Hoss Corncave posted:Okay, long post coming, so apologies in advance. Man, I've been curious about the Noel Brown thing for years now! Now I know. Yeah, the game is Aquapazza. I think there was a PSN release for the PS3 years back. We've got most of the Type X-2 games, that's what we played Spica and Street Fighter IV:AE on, and I believe it has Arcana Hearts as well, but last time I checked there wasn't a persona rom dump, so they might have that out about now. I think the problem with the fighting game community, at least in most forums, they are populated by trolls and generally younger, toxic fans. I've met a lot of cool people, but I feel the problem may be that because the medium is accessible to just about anyone, people aren't willing to appreciate anything but the best. It's like if you're a football fan and you get mad at a high school game when they're not as good as the NFL. Now I've probably made a lot of (typically in jest) statements about how I'm amazing at fighting games, but I have never been and never will be good at 3D fighting games. So, when you see Virtua Fighter, feel free to berate us, but none of us are any good. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh God, I may have to throw Guardians of the Hood and Blood Warrior on the list.

So if you recall, in most arcades they always had one of those shenanigan games where it was usually a vehicle, and you sat/stood on the machine to play it. Some that come to mind: Harley Davidson, Virtual On, Alpine Racer, and Wave Runner, which we play on today's episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tCmZJXRYgU What is interesting to note is that these were all generally on the Sega Model 2 or Model 3 systems, which I guess means they were the best or the only ones who bothered with the gimmick. Edit: I love whoever made that my picture.

Even if you know what kind of game it is it takes a while before you understand the rules and goals of the game, since the label "competitive puzzle shooter" isn't enough. I'd still say you did pretty well, my first go with it involved a hell of a lot more confusion and credits use before I finally figured it out, even with watching the rules at the start(which only cover the basics anyway) If anyone's interested, the full gameplay explanation is over here on Wikipedia. But even with that, you need to play the game for a while to fully understand the mechanics. The plot being Engrish and weird also helps, which is something you don't really see in two-player mode either.

Is anyone else getting a dadaist vibe from crazy engrish'd games like this? I think that's why they appeal to me so much. It kinda makes sense, these games prize irrationality and nonsense.

On the other hand, they also said that writing Mods for the game was "abuse", so, hum.
