I enjoyed watching both Ballers and the Brink. Laughed at both of them, for very different reason. I think Ballers is actually grounded enough in reality to make lifestyle porn engaging and funny. American athletes really do live up to many stereotypes, its only 5% who live to the extremes that defined those stereotypes to being with but the show is not showing the near 100 players of the dolphins living there regular boring responsible lives. TV focuses on the edge groups, and irresponsible people with a little talent get money thrown at them and the show seems to be taking a realistic route of what they do with it. While The Brink is playing to the reversal of roles. The incompetent and childish administration (metaphorically realistic, or actually realistic depending on who you ask) shown against an educated Pakistani family who think the radicals are idiots (A realistic view exaggerated)

That's been the best episode so far in my opinion.

If they ended Ballers at 8 it would pretty much be a season where nothing happened. It might be that anyway, but at least they've established the characters enough to make the final three episodes have some impact.

Maybe they canceled Brink because they couldn't come up with a solid enough screenplay for the second season. Or the actors didn't want to commit again. I would have loved to see more of it, but maybe it wasn't just the networks axing a "mediocre" show?
