I don't understand classic roguelikes and ASCII games either, and I tend to stay away from LPs because they assume that either you have a basic understanding of the game or can keep track of all that ASCII poo poo. In a bout of hilarious irony I'm finding it more difficult to tell what's going on in these screenshots because of the tiles. I'm not asking the OP to change though.
