 First things first, never ask "What's the worst that could happen?" when doing something with total unknowns in roguelikes because the answer should always be assumed to be "painful humiliating death."
Instead, ask yourself "Am I okay with risking painful humiliating death to do this?"

The gently caress is a rothe anyway.
If you want to find out what a rothe or other monster is after the fact, hit / and don't specify any target, then it will allow you to enter a monster name to get info on. This can bring up an in-game encyclopedia entry of varying usefulness on whatever monster you ask about.
