They were told to pitch it kiddy. A bunch of Next Level Metroid concept art leaked several months ago and people just assumed it was a failed pitch because look at it

I didn't see much of the stream so I don't know if they talked about all the control options but the default control scheme uses gyro aiming which is fine.

The bigger issue for non-New 3DS owners is that it'll break the 3D effect.

Wait, what? At 2:30:00-ish, why are they showing a new Custom Robo game that wasn't announced? And why is it not called Custom Robo?

It's a Level-5 game called LBX: Little Battlers Experience; Nintendo announced they were bringing it over a month or so ago. There are 5 or 6 games across PSP, Vita and 3DS but this is the first one to be localised. There's also an anime that recently started running in the US, but the big pull in Japan is the model kits.

Expanding the universe is fine but I think the issue is that it doesn't look like it belongs in the same universe as the other games. Prime Hunters was not a great game but it was at least visually consistent with the main Prime series.

This has been a broader problem with Nintendo lately, where they try to have their cake and eat it too by deliberately matching traditionally hardcore genres with kiddy visuals but it doesn't ingratiate them to either demographic, it just confuses people or turns them off.

This is kinda the main problem. In the Prime games, the Federation are upstanding guys who are just outclassed by the Space Pirates and crazy poo poo like the Ing and Dark Samus and need Samus' help, so they ask Samus for help and they treat her with respect and admiration at all times (in Prime 3, the dudes actually salute you).

But in the Sakamoto games, the Federation is full of braindead morons who see the Space Pirates continually loving up their attempts to clone Metroids and go "hey we oughta try that." And in Fusion and Other M, they constantly abuse, lie to and mislead Samus despite her basically being a weapon of mass destruction with no loyalty or ties to anything except to her own sense of right and wrong and her dead bird parents.

Japanese Federation is Weyland-Yutani, American Federation is whatever the gently caress Master Chief's clique is called, there isn't much more to it than that.

They needed a safeguard against Ridley, the other stupidly dangerous lifeform they kept stashed away for no good reason.
