never really understood soft tabs some like 3 space wide tabs, some prefer 4. it's like hey, guess what? go in your editor's settings and you can set the display width of hard tabs to whatever you want without loving it up for everyone else

at work i use an ancient piece of software that generates HTML which uses non-breaking spaces to indent bulleted lists it works about as well as you'd expect
