Note that Cartel isn't the final game but an "ashcan" edition. That said, I suspect that's not the primary thing most people will be buying this bundle for.

It's playable if you know the general system. It's also excellent -- the addiction rules are very good in particular.

I cannot legitimately recommend it in that case since you can pick up the ashcan separately for $10.

Classes:

El Cocinero (the drug cook, think exactly who you're thinking of)
El Halcón (the hawk, errand runner)
El Narco (the boss)
La Esposa (the spouse, innocent caught in the criminal underworld)
La Polizeta (the cop)
La Sicaria (the hit woman)

You can grab the playbooks and basic moves here.

These are really good playbooks, and I love the Stress Moves. At best, you'll calm down, but you'll probably gently caress up a relationship, waste money or hurt yourself.

Annoying how some moves are "roll +Something, aim for a miss". One of the joys of Apoc is its unerring simplicity.

The Fury is "Carrie", and Carrie is a movie, not a TV series. Once the Fury flips her lid, that's pretty much it for the character's arc.

Possibly; I suppose you could explore the consequences of her actions or how people see her differently after her freak out, or maybe it could be about someone with an appreciation for the sort of mayhem she can command trying to make contact with her.

The Gargoyle is absolutely half-assed, in that it only makes vague sense from a monster perspective and not from a teen perspective.

And no one ate dinner that night.
Someone did a F&F writeup of Skins for the Skinless and I think the general verdict was that they lean a lot towards the monstrous aspect of Monsterhearts while not doing a lot to tie them into the teenage drama part of the game. Like, one of the skins is basically the creature from the black lagoon, and the way it goes about tying it into teenage drama is like "Uh, I guess they're that kid who's really into environmentalism?"

So I went all in on the bundle and got it and...honestly, Bootleggers feels like an early prototype of what became Blades in the Dark. There's the whole 'build a gang' thing going on, with a focus on being a specialist in different sorts of crime. It's smuggling runs instead of heists, but you can see it in DNA.

The 1920s cocktail recipes look pretty great.

Hello, PbtA friends. I've just launched a kickstarter for my pbta-like game, Fellowship, and I've also made an SA thread for it.

I say pbta-like because Fellowship changes the core structure and assumptions of *World games in a lot of big ways. The GM-player has less narrative power but they also get a playbook to themselves, and the other players have significantly more narrative power than usual. To use the lingo from earlier in the thread, I feel like Fellowship is an honest attempt at a Third Circle hack, one that takes the *World framework and does something new with it. Have a look - backers have access to a downloadable rules preview that contains 90% of the final book.

I don't want to derail any more threads so please post about it in the Fellowship thread, not in here.

I've been running the game that Evil Mastermind linked to and it's been great fun!

With PbP you do indeed lose the table banter, and you also have this phenomenon where people will play very conservatively, taking few risks. But these are common to every PbP game, to be honest.

On the other hand, WWW has a very structured flow of play (matches separated by segments), and by nature the game tends to shift the spotlight between characters, so not everyone is posting at 100% effort all the time. These things help reduce burnout in a PbP game.

If you want to read the game, keep in mind that the entirety of my experience with wrestling is watching a match here and there during 2 months of "research" for the game, and most of those weren't modern WWE :v: So our game is definitely an example of how things can turn out when the GM is not a card-carrying Wrestling Fan.

Not just the GM; I ran a game of WWW where three of the players didn't know a thing about wrestling, but in like 10 minutes they were coming up with stuff that wouldn't be remotely out of place on a wrestling program. It does an amazing job directing the playstyle for everyone.

I love everything about Walton's Planarch Codex, except that it's based on Dungeon World. That's not to say I dislike Dungeon World, but that having a system that robustly supports violence pushes players towards styles of play that make many of the stories you can tell in a cosmopolitan and wondrous city nonviable. It's really hard to have a resurrectionist subplot when the average adventuring party produces enough corpses to crash the market. It's really hard to make extortionists from a neighboring burough scary when the characters are used to throwing down with mythological monsters.

Is there a PbtA system that'll let me run the immigrant experience if the city was new crobuzon meets fallen london meets sigil that doesn't produce bloodbaths, or should I try and bash something together from Simple World?

I think Walton actually favors John Harper's stripped-down "1970s version" of Dungeon World called World of Dungeons for the Planarch Codex. It might be worth checking out the game and, especially, the character sheet Walton uses when running Planarch WoD.
