The solution to all this is to have more games with non-human, genderless characters, so that players and critics can finally talk about the gameplay, and let the medium evolve as an interactive art form devoid of preconceptions, exploring the possibilities beyond text or movie-like narrative. Something like Journey, or ... Pikmin (?)

In this thread you have a back and forth of ideas between people, even if it was simulated and people were pretending to be on either side, ideas are thrown around. It's the only place I've seen where this is going on, the rest of the GG "debates" is either insults, or discussions isolated from the opposite side, used to reinforce their own beliefs.

I think the pent-up impotent rage from GG is probably related to seeing journalism websites (that hold some sort of power or authority) saying stuff they disagree with, but having no way of arguing back as readers, or just never seeing another journalist moderately challenging the view that they want to challenge. Their rational, skeptical response is to start being misogynistic and racist (in a pure intellectual manner!), venting heir hatred anonymously on the internet, and eventually reinforcing their conspiracy theory every time they get blocked for being poo poo / for planning terrorist attacks.

They haven't attempted to petition before the SCOTUS, file several frivolous lawsuit and be permanently disbarred from practicing law so I think this may be slightly hyperbolic. What they've done is write an opinion piece.
The cult mentality in GG will make them take this blog post as a confirmation that there's a conspiracy between developers and journalists, or something.

You'd think with the current state of online security and surveillance, it wouldn't be that hard to track down the terrorist dorks who sent death threats to Anita. I mean how much of a hacker are these guys and how incompetent is the police to not find anything yet

There were a lot of horror stories coming out of the entire thing from Wu, Harper, Jenn Frank, and a few others, that the concept of online harassment is still sufficiently new to the cops that their idea of a sufficient response was to tell them to stay off Twitter. A lot of the go-to tactics of online harassment are not actually illegal yet. John Oliver did a segment on it on "Last Week Tonight" a few weeks ago.

(Bonus round: he was specifically talking about the wan legal response to not only this, but other online harassment such as "revenge porn," and used a thirty-second clip of both Sarkeesian and Wu talking about their experiences being harassed. Neither mentioned games, gaming, or GamerGate, nor did Oliver, but because of that thirty-second clip, GamerGate went loving ballistic. The comments section on the "LWT" clip on YouTube is like the stupidity Olympics, even by the standards of YouTube comments.)
If GG doesn't like the harrassers and is actually not about harrassment, they are really dumb for getting angry at this specifically; If there were laws for online harrassment, the guilty people would have been found instantly and (if what Gators say about GG is true) they could have showed that the terrorists were not part of Gamergate, or something.
GG should want these new regulations, unless their actual goal is just to harrass the people they don't like...

Really, my takeaway point from most of Sarkeesian's videos has always been an issue that I knew existed before she made the scene: writing in games, plot and dialogue and characterization
This is really accurate, as this is specifically what she focuses on: Not the games themselves... But the flaws in their writing and narrative.
If people who hate her would separate it this way when watching her, they would easily aknowledge how bad game writing is, since those analysis don't touch the gameplay itself. If they do it's just barely, or to point something about the writing.

For example, if someone redid the entire writing and characterization of Bayonetta, but left the gameplay intact I would (and I'm probably not the only one) still love the game, because it's fun to play, and the only thing misogynistic characters are doing there is substracting merit from an otherwise amazing work of interactive media.

I wouldn't call Bayonetta misogynistic so much as having weaponized her own sexualization.

Misogyny's a frequently misused term, to my mind. I've not played many games where I thought to myself, holy poo poo, somebody at this studio has a serious problem with women. I've certainly played a lot of games where the studio in question was clearly staffed by a bunch of dudes who were all firmly in touch with their inner 13-year-olds, though.
I personally don't think I'm qualified to decide what's misogynistic or not. I aknowledge the problem with that studio and women, and some of them are fans of pinups and what not, but I also aknowledge that they make amazing gameplay with a quality that is rarely matched by other studios.
Judge each aspect of the media with it's own measurement. Bad gameplay with good writing can have it's merits as a game too.

I think it's important to think about demeaning writing in games, discuss the problem and change it. And it's also really important to think whether the gameplay in said game is really good or not. After all, the objective is to have better games, right?

how about this: video games are juvenile poo poo for manchildren and are very often sexist and misogynistic

Demeaning writing is bad writing and games need to start caring more about that. If the writing in games starts being better, everything will improve, including diversity.
I would unironically be interested in reading/watching feminist analysis of videogames that wasn't entirely based on the negative, that contrasted positive with negative examples in the medium, that aknowledged good and bad gameplay design, and took into account the unpredictability of player action.
