It is guaranteed to be lazy, ignorant, and/or uninformed.
Do you have any recommended specific readings?

I've always had success with the argument of approaching not with it of a dollar value but of what it can actually buy. Such as , do you think that someone who works for an hour at any job should be able to buy such and such.

My answer to minimum wage that has had traction with older conservatives is to ask them what min wage was when they were young. most say about $1.25 or so. I then ask what a gallon of gas cost. Usually, 25 cents to 30 cents, I then say thats all I want. Minimum wage to buy me at an hour of work, 4-5 gallons of gas.

That's rather simple logic we could pick apart all day with modern oil issues.

No wonder it works. :allears:

Here's the thing though, earlier this year in some states, "4 gallons of gas" was as low as $6.60, which is 65 cents under federal minimum.

A lot of Frankfurts stuff isn't online and I don't have the PDF's on this computer. But yeah his entire argument is that people find equality to be distasteful (because people loving suck poo poo) and sufficiency is often a better argument (in and that is easier to sell) because it doesn't rely on people finding equality to be intrinsically valuable or desirable.

You could debate if it's Socialist or not (it's certainly not communist as it involves no elimination of class) but there isn't anything inherently wrong in some people being more successful as long as everyone is happy.

I work in a gas station, I know. I dont make that argument when gas is down so low. Only when its around 4$

t's a lot more important if you actually point out how the value has decreased. It's a fact that it hasn't increased along with inflation, making it worth a good 1/3 less than it was back in their youth and invalidating their "When I was your age I worked minimum wage full time and it bought me a house!". If someone doesn't understand inflation, it's useless trying to argue anything else related to economics.

Maybe it's because I'm the person who's "just clocking in and out" that Grant Moran is so worried about, but it's not like they changed any of his responsibilities any - they didn't pile on a bunch of additional work on him to make up for the pay raise, and if he was due for promotion, who was he to say that the promotion would not have bumped his pay up further?

I can't imagine Trump being the last man standing here and ending up as the GOP nominee, but really I don't know what will cause his popularity to drop. Unlike Serious Candidate Romney, all the other guys are jokes including Jeb! and Walker so it's really not like they have that reliable rock to fall back on once the crazy runs its course.

I don't understand why people think that Trump being a frontrunner for the GOP is a good thing. He will inevitably fall in the polls.

He's just taking up all of the air in the room right now which allows Bush and Walker to function without much scrutiny. In addition he's making Jeb and Walker look a lot more sane and moderate by comparison. None of Jeb's or Walker's stories have gotten much attention in the last couple of weeks when compared to Trump.

I think Trump is a good thing for the GOP.

On the flip side, anything controversial from Bush or Walker will be forgotten by this time next year when it really matters.

If what you say is correct, then Jeb is already sunk with his Iraq comment.
