I did stamps back in school. It's basically rubber glued to a piece of wood, pretty sure you can buy it in any craft store. I had (probably still have) a special little chisel with changeable bits. The way we transferred the image was just to draw it on a piece of tracing paper, then cover it with chalk or charcoal dust, then flip it over upside-down on top of the rubber and trace it.
