God you guys had me suspicious and it turns out I read a few Lurlene McDaniel books as a kid too. I loved to read so instead of talking to me about anything awkward like drugs, sex, death etc my mom would just buy me books randomly. These always stuck with me as being weirdly over the top tragic. I think the worst books I ever read were the Left Behind series. I don't know how you make the literal apocalypse boring and trite but...

Inheritance trilogy sucked, broken earth trilogy is great, I couldn't even finish dreamblood. You want a creepy and gross sex scene though, here's an except from a book called Mermaid's Song I picked up for $1 in a used book shop. Elan felt his hardness press against her belly, so near the small hidden slit that ran vertically in the soft skin just below her navel. What filled her was something like hunger, but in her womb. His every movement against her was a promise of what was to come, and Elan felt her breath come faster. All she wanted was to begin the dance and finally to burst with the tension that smothered all her senses. A soft moan escaped with her breath and she saw the Nemu flinch at the sound, saw him struggling with her desire and his own (If we start, not stop we could.)His voice, and soon the meaning of his words, cut through the haze that enveloped her. Feeling his hardness and urgency, knowing how deeply she was woven into this spell, Elan is a mermaid, and Nemu is a dolphin. Dolphins are portrayed in this book as sentient but stupid.

I thought I had to finish an entire series out of spite once, I really enjoyed the first book and then the second was awful but I was like hey maybe it's a fluke I'll read the third one and it was even worse and then there was a fourth book and I thought might as well finish the series and then it ends on a cliffhanger and I found out there was a fifth book at which point my friend talked some sanity into me.
