The point of that scene is obviously to make you feel very uncomfortable, and you're probably supposed to get an impression of a pretty heavy violation of personal space rather than any kind of "sexual tension" or whatever. Of course the scene plays on the reader's expectations though, be they Japanese or American or whoever.

Is the Japanese voice actor for Joseph putting on some ridiculous posh accent as well, which i can't pick up on since i don't speak Japanese? His Japanese voice sounded like he was a bit of a clown rather than some posh guy like that dub. It doesn't match the personality of the original.

Is it weird that I feel like how Jonathan was dubbed in the abridged series sounds more natural than the actual dub? JYB sounds great, don't get me wrong, but Abridged Jonathan sounds closer to what I pictured him sounding like. He's powerful, but he's supposed to sound "soft" to contrast with what he looks like. It's not weird at all for parents and young children to bathe together in Japan and other parts of Asia, so that scene is more loving with what's supposed to be a normal parent-child interaction (you thought he was your dad, but it was actually a serial killer! and he's going to kill YOU!), but not in a sexual way. Also I guess it plays on the whole "fear of bad poo poo going down while you're in the bathroom naked and defenseless" thing? edit: I forgot this was the let's read part 4 thread! sorry! Especially Koyasu being the best VA in the show when he's doing the same voice he does in literally everything he's in. It only works because Dio is hammy as gently caress in the source material not because Koyasu is good. There's also the fact that Unshou Ishizuka doesn't do the voice he's known for and that people probably expected for Joseph. But that's pretty minor I suppose. Sugita was 100% the most perfect casting possible for Joseph and if you can't see it I can only assume you're pretending to be retarded. I thought the scene with Poleneraff was creepy because of how it was presented. It was super uncomfortable to watch. The other scene though, I thought it was perfect, because of how hosed up it was. It made you really hate him that much more.
