Turn based JRPG? the earlier games were an action rpg on a 2d plane, but the more modern ones switched to a 3d plane. you combo regular attacks and artes, you can juggle, you can set teammates tactics (kind of like ffxii gambits but not as in depth) etc etc

Turn based JRPG? real time arpg. it's like halfway between a fighting game and an rpg, there's a rudimentary combo system and special attacks and poo poo. it's not as technical as a fighting game but combat's fluid and feels pretty good

The CE runs more than Earthbound. After Beating Xillia 1 and 2 I tried playing both Symphonias, Symphonia 2 really does suc. Graces F is better than both Symphonias though.

Tales of games gameplay is generally good, but the stories tend to suck rear end and the main characters tend to have a bad case of retardation. Vesperia was a rare case in that it had a very good protagonist and some good side characters (Repede and Judith), but the rest were ehh. Even so, Vesperia's story went to poo poo in the end. So if you don't give a gently caress about story and can stand mcs being completely asinine 99% of the time and like cool rear end realtime battles with combo attacks and poo poo, Tales of games are probably worth a look. Kind of tempted to preorder this because despite Lloyd and Collette being unlikable idiots, I have some fond memories of Symphonia. Probably just nostalgia but still.

If every Tales game was about 1/3 as long they'd all be way better. If they're porting Symphonia then maybe they'll bring over Vesperia and Xillia as well, keeping it to just the better ones. But then they're porting Zestiria which was apparently mediocre, so who knows.

The DLC quests was where the meat of the game was which was why Japanese guys got really pissed. The base game+DLC is really good as a whole package.
