A palm isn't something that should "come off"  I lost a teeny-tiny sliver of middle finger to a mandolin slicer a couple of years ago, and I assure you, trying to bandage a wound at the end of one of the most useful fingers of your dominant hand with no help leads to some of the bloodiest slapstick you'll ever experience.
