Oh I totally get that fairly mundane western foods are popular in Japan, its just not the reason I'm watching. Also that recipe couldn't be much more basic when it comes to potato salad.

I just watched the first episode of the live action 2nd season. It's pretty good. I think the 'pshuuu' loses some of its appeal but the show gains a lot in the department of having actual food to drool over.
I debating if the full-length episode format was the right idea here. Wakako ends up going to two restaurants and having three different dishes over the course of the episode, it could have easily been split into shorter mini episodes like the anime.
I think the shorter episodes made the anime more digestible.
