Anime of the year and also grilled salmon and crispy salmon skin is delicious as hell. Have yet to try it with sake though, will have to someday.

Potato/Corn starch is good, either or. Some people add flour to add extra crispness!

Here are some Youtube videos with karaage recipes if goons wanna try it out. It's literally the easiest fried chicken you can make and great for lunch. And of course, with beer.

Do japanese people really fry their chicken in sake? Idk about that, man...

It's part of the marinade to tenderize it before frying.

Was not expecting to see my giant effort post in the op...but you guys should come to the GWS thread. There's been more effort to cook Japanese food in the 4 pages of this thread than that whole thing.

The power of anime wives is compelling.

That and animated fried chicken.

I'm not a big fan of potato salad, but Wakako just enjoys herself so much with even a mundane dish like that, it's nice.

I just watched the first episode of the live action 2nd season. It's pretty good. I think the 'pshuuu' loses some of its appeal but the show gains a lot in the department of having actual food to drool over.
I debating if the full-length episode format was the right idea here. Wakako ends up going to two restaurants and having three different dishes over the course of the episode, it could have easily been split into shorter mini episodes like the anime.
I think the shorter episodes made the anime more digestible.

I watched some episodes and I agree. I don't like the longer length, but the shots of food and drink are gorgeous and made me really hungry.

I hope there are more scans to translate of the manga.
