Do people bother rehosting the pools or whatever they're called? I'm looking for all the random matches for P4UA before the top 8 was decided, but can't find it with simple googling.

It's not at all convenient but you should be able to watch the Persona pools here.

He tagged up with r/Kappa after he made top 8 though. I don't think reddit had anything to do with him coming to evo. Someone (I think Zhi) mentioned he's got like 500k BP with Juri on Japan Xbox live or arcades. Hyperbole most likely, but maybe that's what he's known for. That, and the Daigo being scared of him comment.

He's primarily an online warrior who lives out in the sticks of Japan and took a six-hour train to Tokyo recently for a big tournament and apparently took down a bunch of top players. AFAIK one of the reasons Daigo feared him most is that they had pretty much never played together before EVO?? This is all commentator hearsay though

Was ai ai vs infiltration the one with the Abel switch? All i know is both of them had really amazing matches all weekend. I would have never guessed we'd see all the chars we did in the later matches, even without infiltration being crazy.

Infiltration used Abel against Momochi, who then counterpicked with Elena. Infiltration should've started with Abel, he might've won with his Chun counterpick.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this, but as per Capcom Pro Tour rules, If your opponent pauses mid-match, you MUST take the round. It is not a choice. The reason they waited for the round to time out was so that Gamerbee didn't build meter by attacking Momochi.

Anyway this year's Evo was amazing. Only 361 days til next year!!!

I always turn off pausing in Smash tournaments so I can mash out of grabs without worrying about whether I hit the pause button or not.

There should be a pause menu option to give the round to a player.

That would be a great legacy mode.

Seriously though, just eliminate the pause feature entirely. The typical SF match takes like two minutes, if you can't hold it in for that long then losing a game ain't your biggest problem.

Lots of sticks feature a Tournament Mode which disables the start/pause/whatever button.

I don't think this matters, though. Wasn't Momochi's problem that his stick was actually failing, so the system read it as a disconnect?

Yes, it was a disconnect, not a pause. The likely culprit is the cable connector which is a common point of failure on those sticks.

Yeah while they were waiting for the time to run out, Momochi's stick paused it again while he wasn't touching it, it was definitely a malfunction and not his fault.

Yeah, as soon as it paused it said the controller was disconnected. The PCB probably fried as it's a known issue on the first gen razer sticks and razer probably just reuses parts because razer.

I also think the stick went into the home menu during the very first character screen. It was frying.

Don't think Razer will ever sell much sticks after this. It's becoming a joke and people will make it in every tournament from now on when other people are using Razer sticks and, as the joke spreads, so will infamy and people will likely avoid Razer due to "just in case".

SF5 very well might have the option to disable the pause button after this year's evo.

That said, there isn't anything you can do ingame to prevent your stick from dying. RIP Razer.

There's also the thing Skullgirls and MKX have where you have to hold down start for 15 frames to pause the game. That makes it pretty hard to pause by accident.

Case in point: PDP Mortal Kombat tournament where sticks were mandatory and had to be supplied by PDP. Almost every match was held up due to a broken stick.

I think their time with arcade sticks is done for a generation at least. They'll probably redesign something and pretend they actually put it through QA this time.

There should be some kind of penalty option to choose from in my opinion. Gamerbee was put in a situation that was out of his control, despite being the victim of circumstance, and even though he lost that first round in the set where the infraction happened, I felt like GB had all the momentum. All the traction he gained quickly dissipated the moment play stopped.

Gamerbee should have had the option to either take the free round or completely restart the final set, removing the previous round that Momochi won. Afterall, it was Momochi's stick that hosed up, he should have been penalized for that. If given the option, would Gamerbee have restarted the set? Maybe. I personally would have.

The rule is there so the decision is out of the player's hand and thus he cannot be blamed for whatever happens afterwards. If it it was Gamerbee's choice, he either gets called scumbag for rule-winning, or regrets giving a chance if Momochi wins. This way, it's objective and the results are far less overshadowed.

I wouldn't mind being called a scumbag if it meant having more chances to win ~$30k. Gotta take them risks yo.

Sorry but It's waaaaay better to have it be mandatory. That way you don't deal with poo poo like players taking the blame for taking the round when big money is on the line or alternatively, people being bullied into just letting it rock because of the crowd or if your opponent has his whole crew surrounding you.

Your situation only applies if Momochi takes the first round. If Gamerbee had taken round 1, there's no penalty to apply.

But having the round win be mandatory is the correct rule anyways.

Yeah, it was a pretty niche situation to be honest. I was just thinking of it like the rule in American football where you can decline the penalty or whatever.

You can decline penalties in football because keeping the play is potentially more advantageous than the penalty, not to let a coach feel magnanimous by embracing the spirit of competition.
