Did they report the Watch numbers? I didn't see them mentioned on the CNBC article I read earlier.

they reported revenues

from the AP

quote:

Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri told The Associated Press that revenue from the watch amounted to "well over" that $952 million increase. He said the category also includes revenue from iPods and accessories, whose sales fell in the quarter.

"We beat our internal expectations" for the watch, Maestri said, adding that the number of watches sold in the first nine weeks was greater than the number of iPhones or iPads that the company sold in a comparable period after those products launched.

Apple has previously said it sold 1 million iPhones in the first 74 days, or more than 10 weeks, after sales began in 2007. Apple has said it sold 2 million iPads in the first 60 days, with iPad sales hitting 3 million in 80 days after the iPad was launched in 2010.

to put that ~2m figure in perspective:

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/02/android-wear-sales-bad-compared-to-phones-ok-compared-to-other-watches/

analysts put the number of android wear watches shipped north of 720k for all of 2014
pebble shipped its millionth watch december 2014

apple probably sold more watches in the first 90 days than every android smartwatch, combined.

ad blocking will just lead to ads being embedded in domain of the page you are on

right now you goto theverge.com and load like 15 javascript files from 15 different domains

after ad blocking becomes too popular google etc will make a "cloud acceleration service" or a "website asset pipeliner" or some poo poo that will basically be a reverse web proxy

so theverge.com will actually be hosted by google and will serve out a single /scripts.js with theverges scripts and all 3rd party scripts concatenated

its going to be advertised as a speed up service at first but really its going to be the only way to make money because it bypasses all adblockers

conveniently this will only serve Google ads

wow, I think we just figured out how Google gets its ad revenue groove back.

alternate theory: all mobile web sites will create apps that are just webview wrappers and don't get caught up by the safari content blockers, and if you view the page on a mobile browser you can't get to any content unless you install the app

Does Apple have to approve content blocking extensions for iOS?

looks that way

esp. since they're requiring a full dev account for OS X safari extensions as well - I wonder if they'll distribute them on the Mac App Store?

im not terribly worried that they won't approve them, considering Apple themselves have said they added the content blocking API primarily to allow ad blockers, because they don't think the current methods used are very good

so is the safari ad blocker thing on ios just going to be like adblock pro plus addition where the adblock people can "approve" ads/companies and those ads go through.

except in adblocks case, you can turn that off, but in apple's case I"m sure that you won't be able to.

so basically every advertiser is just going to have to pay Apple a fee to get through the adblocker...

Intel has the advantage of shitloads of code that works fine on x86 that no one is ever going to bother to port

on the other hand, a pretty large number of enterprise LOB applications are just web front-ends to some horrific DB or whatever in the background. wiring them up to an ios app would be pretty trivial, and there's something to be said for the idea of replacing office drone computers with ipads pros or w/e. i think the ibm/apple partnership is going to move along those lines.
