Evil Nazi Vampire is a really fun bad guy to have. If I remember right from the books I think his character is much bigger in the show. I want to say Setrakian had already killed him back in like the 70s and he has no part in the modern day story in the books, but I haven't read them in awhile.

The master looked a lot less goofy with half his face burnt off.

Eichorst is barely in the books except for a few scenes

I only read the first book and barely remember it, but wasn't Palmer kept in the shadows until the very end of the novel?

Book Palmer is a total putz who spends the entire first book and a bit of the second failing to see a downside to helping bring about the vampire apocalypse, TV Palmer is actually just a little smarter than that and knows when to negotiate with the Master from a position of power and when not to. Just a little smarter though, it's still painfully obvious he has a shelf life and will get eaten sooner or later

Yeah, The Master looked horribly stupid when he was fully revealed but when we saw his origins it made complete sense. I thought he was some lame attempt at a Nosferatu look but ok, he was like that before he turned. Clever actually.

To be fair there's been a lot of departures from the storyline and what happens to characters has already changed a bunch in the show. Bodyguard guy going rogue, Eichorst having a much much bigger role, etc.

Where did you learn how to do that?
If this show had the budget of, say Twilight, a lot of peoples' complaints would subside. They are doing some pretty cool stuff with the hundred dollar bill FX gave them to make the show. I'm also digging the improved action scenes. The Feelers are creepy AF.

Every time the kid talks I just hear that scene from Big Daddy.

"You're not mad at me, you're mad at your father!"

Nah, other than the Master (who may well be goofy looking because of his gigantism, and definitely looks better with his face burned) I have been pretty impressed by the special effects in this show. Not just the monster makeup but some of the props, like the Master's coffin. That's the impression that I've gotten from pretty much everyone else, too.

The pace has definitely picked up in the second season, and I hope they maintain it.

Not just you. The longer running time is apparently commercials and not content.

I deleted my timer after last season hoping I would forget this show existed but then saw a commercial and couldn't resist. I have no willpower. This season does seem to be a little more polished.

Not sure what you mean. This series actually has much better effects than the Twilight movies, which is kinda shocking and shameful for the Twilight people.

I"m glad they finally addressed the issue of how Setrakian remains so spry after all these years, and in a satisfying way that will lead to future complications as well. It's a bit of a fateful parallel that in order to continue to fight Eichorst and Palmer he's resorting to the same source as them for their own immortality.

Yeah, show is pretty decent when focused on vampire killing/hunting. Flashbacks have been enjoyable but leave all this family drama poo poo out. Also, Eph is horrible so it's no wonder his kid is a poo poo heel.

Looks like Roger Cross is joining the team next week. Vamps are hosed.

He's not so much King Joffrey bad as he is kid Anikin from Star Wars bad. He also seems to think the vampire apocalypse is a good time and place to start throwing tantrums.

Joffrey was a good insufferable character. The Strain kid is a completely unnecessary contrivance that exists only to shove family drama into the series by the means of random hissy fits and general lovely behavior.

Although the kid has a weasely enough face that I wouldn't mind seeing him get actually turned by vampire mom and shithead Eph has to decapitate his shithead son.

I love this show and everything Guillermo del Toro does. That said, the New York speech was a very low point in a show that goes to some very low places. I'm not sure which is worse: any scene with the kid in it, or that speech.

Didn't the master give the dead wife power over some of the other vampires? I assume this culminates with her killing the kid and Corey Stoll losing his marbles.

Yeah, she has powers over the blind kid vampires. I'm not sure why the Nazi guy needed blind kids specifically for her to control and I don't know why she randomly snapped one of the kids necks.

It's about time for my once per decade ban for being a consistently terrible poster.
He needed kids born blind, not just blinded later in life. She snapped necks because some of the kids weren't born blind. It's probably due to their brain being wired a bit different because they've never used their eyes before, making them better trackers, or some such pseudoscience nonsense.

Yeah anytime a writer suggests a plot line for kids they should be beaten. The walking dead actually did that right for a change changing Coral from a little pain in the rear end to an actual poo poo wrecker was cool.

Which is weird, because in the books I'm pretty sure it was all kids who were blinded by the eclipse (rather than being born blind) due to faulty eclipse-viewing glasses that the Palmer Foundation (or whatever one of his organizations is called) handed out before the eclipse.

the only point of the Strain kid is to constantly throw temper tantrums.
