type heaven would be alright for tryin out if you dont mind missing nerdlinger features like detachable keyboard cable and pbt caps

which tbh is prob. fine since being able to pull the :smug: MY TOPRE SWITCHES :smug: card is way more elite.

pbt is good, i have an old northgate clone which has doubleshot caps but theyre abs and the texture on the home row keys has all smoothed out. otoh my unicomp that ive had since 2008 and used daily still feels brand new. i think pbt feela better too but

at101 is good but black alps are not clicky, just tactile. they are still decently noisy but dont expect a deafening chorus like buckling spring or white alps

a board with mx blacks is on the second hand market. I've never used linear switches before.. if the price is right I'll snag but I don't know if I would regret

mx blacks are the only mech switch i actually really dislike using, muh fingers got used to having tactile feedback when a switch articulates and blacks are so heavy that i just bottom out and make my hands really fatigued after like 10 minutes of using them

only good linear switch imo is green alps, they arent light enough that i accidentally hit them like mx reds but not heavy enough to cause fatigue like blacks

do any of you buy actual cherry keyboards?
i was thinking of getting this one: http://www.keyboardspecialists.co.uk/2806-cherry-g80-3000-mechanical-blue-mx-keyboard

theyre okay. they dont have very good keycaps any more and the cases are kinda flimsy but theyre still geunine mx switches and you can usually find them pretty cheap

at least i got bribed to ease the pain:

reqs:
- must be fairly silent
- vintage preferred, modern tolerated
- backlit not desired
- tenkey critical
- ps/2 preferred
- winkey optional, but appreciated

something with browns or clears should fit the bill nicely

why would you ruin a perfectly good keyboard by doing this, instead of by using an external USB-ADB adapter?

the griffin one is still like $70 bucks, you can get a teensy for <$20

idk why youd use a hirose connector though lol

well, i do have an AppleDesign keyboard too, but nah these are actual aekii

i did just play with em a bit, and they're better than i remembered, but still not as nice as the iigs ADB. might just be old and sticky/crappy whereas the ADB is pretty nice and snick-snack still

like, they def feel mechanical, but they dont feel good really

condition is everything w/ alps switches, just because the case looks clean doesnt mean the switches aren't totally worn out and full of dust. the dampened switches on the aek ii in particular are prone to this ive noticed

its just further proof that the AEK1 w/ orange alps is the premiere old apple keyboard
