two new maxkey sets are filtering out of china: maxkey ninja (black on black) maxkey dolch although i'm glad to see this show up (portland had flat greys versus these proper more brown tinted greys, in line with proper dolch), i have to point out that we're coming up on signature plastics having an arguably similar value for $25 more with it's less gaudy arrow keys and a bonus red esc key. signature plastics set is however offered in a dsa profile, so if you're after an sa set maxkey obviously pulls ahead. sp dsa dolch

well i mean if you're game to diy the poo poo out of this, the caps exist and are ready to ship right now: https://deskthority.net/wiki/R6_leftovers can't promise a perfect 1:1 match, but via the hyper7 stuff you should be able to kitbash something convincing the switches on the ace models aren't soldered, so grab a cheap one here: https://acepads.en.alibaba.com/ the symbolics cases should be simple enough to make or get fab'ed, as long as you can figure out the dimensions

you've got enough bits in the base kit to completely omit the fucky novelties, and while i agree this looks fairly dumb like their nuclear set, it's again a sign that custom molds are doable i just hope they get someone with actual good design opinions to jump in soon, because man they're wasting opportunities here

group buy - sa max ashen from maxkey - round 2 - $78 for a fully sculpted sa keycap set, honeywell themed - $16.80 shipping if you just buy just that, or free shipping if you grab $100 of stuff - group closes sept. 5th, ships october-ish - abs, but thick rear end doubleshot abs with a satisfying sound round 2 changes a couple things: quote:The new and improved Maxkey Max Ashen is back by popular demand. With its classic and low-key gray color scheme accented by a dash of red, SA Max Ashen is reminiscent of the aftermath of a campfire, with some burning embers amidst a pile of gray and white ashes. Previous issues such as "Back space", “SHIF T”have been all resolved, "Delete" is now "DEL" and "Escape" now "ESC", for even better aesthetics. check me out sperging about this set here: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3732284&pagenumber=93&perpage=40#post473197750 i can vouch for both the production quality of this set and zfrontier, and i've been quite happy with my purchase. this is a legit good purchase if you've been lusting after crisp, luxurious doubleshot sa keycaps, at a more reasonable price than the sp stuff on massdrop. the ~6 week turn around is also quite nice. get on this, nerds

HEY NONG MAN posted:what's a quick way to clean up my PBT keys without popping them all off? baby wipes? baby wipes poked in between the keys with a coffee stick or something, with either a good vacuum or compressed air blast. obviously, if there's a contaminant concern, strip the keys and wash everything with mild soap honestly i'd just pop the caps and soap everything, last time i did it the actual work was about 20 minutes excluding whatever time spent forgetting i had stuff soaking. grab a $5 wire key puller if you don't have one already, you can work much faster than with those cheap plastic rings

reminder that sa ashen is live and has ~5 days left on it's timer. a legit good set i own and vouch for, pretty much the cheapest way you can get into sa caps: https://en.zfrontier.com/collections/keysets/products/maxkey-ashen sa oblivion is about to kick off, many configs to choose from. basic tkl kit runs about $90, full size ansi $120: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-oblotzky-sa-oblivion-custom-keycap-set

sa caps sorta call back to older keyboards, but at the end of the day you can do whatever you want with your stuff, really. my only concern is the lack of an fn key, could you take a photo of the board or find one online? i'm concerned that you're running something different than the 1.25u ctrl/alt/win keys and a 6.25u space, which could complicate stuff quite a bit here are your currently easily accessible maxkey options (ie excluding slogging through taobao): dolch, ninja (black on black) & portland: https://kbdfans.aliexpress.com/store/group/sa-profile/2230037_511642948.html white on black: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MAX...56-bdcffefbf842 nothing's currently running on zfrontier or on massdrop. alternatively, from a purely aesthetics point of view, i think blank dsa caps would work well with that bezel: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...2679203800.html it's up to you, you could always get a nice set of sa dolch or something for now, move it to god's one true keyboard later (a code in clears) and enjoy the rich, sculpted goodness of sa caps now even if it'd look a bit weird on your star trek bezel

i honestly can't tell the difference between reds and browns e: and if you prefer clears, i suspect you'd prefer greens over blues, iirc it's about the same stiffness difference between blues and greens than browns and clears getting something in greens is on my todo list at some point

corsair's usual layout: standard ansi: getting ctrl keys in 1.5u and super & meta keys in 1u is possible, but that 6.5u spacebar is basically poison; even the super granular 7bit kits just don't do 6.5u, it basically doesn't exist. massdrop won't help here. pretty much the only people that do corsair spec layouts is max keyboard (not maxkey, the china sa caps) in what i believe is either oem or cherry profile: http://www.maxkeyboard.com/products/cherry-mx-keycap/ in the key configurator choose "large font" for the alpha option and "simple" for the mods, it's not going to be the same as proper double shot sa caps but you do have the option of customizing the key colors, so that's nice

not sure how it progressed in the last month, but quote:We also have encountered some unexpected push-back from one of our former partners, Massdrop, on the topic of the Halo switches. We (Input Club) developed and invented the Halo switches, and worked with Massdrop to finance the physical tooling that allows them to go to mass production. We assigned Massdrop the patent rights in exchange for a royalty and a “license-back” that we believe allows us to source the switches for use in keyboards. But when we tried to order switches for the WhiteFox/NightFox, Massdrop would not let us source them. They then claimed to own the “Halo” name and asked us to give up the license-back altogether, so we would essentially lose all access to our own invention. This is very confusing for us at Input Club, as we are mostly a team of engineers and are not used to dealing with people who act in this manner. Unfortunately, we don’t have any more information right now as to how the situation will unfold. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lekashman/whitefox-mechanical-keyboard/updates
