Lol, the world is so unjust and lovely. I'm assuming "forced labor" in Brazil is essentially slavery minus the chattel? It took 30 years for Brazil's inspectorate to actually spin up and DO anything, and really, they're more public-paid consultants than enforcers. This is the best we have to hope for? Why?

Support the TPP and minor transgressions, like locking your workers in against their will to continue working without more pay, will be overlooked in favor of suggesting that, maybe, these machines shouldn't be maiming people QUITE so much. These are the labor protections we need.

I like how the article just assumes it's not worth trying to get these countries to pay their inspectors more or to hire more of them, instead, they should just stop trying to play enforce laws altogether. How long until OSHA and DOL are dissolved for being too "paternalistic" and are replaced by grants to private consulting firms?
