10 loving years. For 10 years, Mexican clubs have won the CONCACAF Champions League. This year will probably be no different (my money's on Club América to repeat). The 8th edition of this version of determining a club champion of CONCACAF will get everyone's hopes up, only to shatter them when we get an all-Liga MX final. On the way, we'll see some of the worst refereeing in all of soccer as the premier (and only) competition of its kind in North America embarks on August 4th!

Teams are divided into groups who play round robin with each other. The team with the most amount of points moves on to the knockout round, which is seeded based on those very points.

Group A
Santos Laguna (Mexico)
Saprissa (Costa Rica)
W Connection (Trinidad & Tobago)

Group B
Herediano (Costa Rica)
Isidro Metapán (El Salvador)
UANL (Mexico)

Group C
Querétaro (Mexico)
San Francisco (Panama)
Verdes (Belize)

Group D
Central FC (Trinidad & Tobago)
Comunicaciones (Guatemala)
Los Angeles Galaxy (USA)

Group E
América (Mexico)
Motagua (Honduras)
Walter Ferretti (Nicaragua)

Group F
Olimpia (Honduras)
Seattle Sounders FC (USA)
Vancouver Whitecaps (Canada)

Group G
C.S.D. Municipal (Guatemala)
Real Salt Lake (USA)
Santa Tecla (El Salvador)

Group H
Árabe Unido (Panama)
D.C. United (USA)
Montego Bay United (Jamaica)

US television rights belong to Fox Sports, so expect the games on Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, and Fox Soccer Plus for all games involving US teams and maybe a few others. The Univision family of networks will probably show most of the rest of the games. There's also Fox Soccer 2Go, which will carry every game.

Canadian television rights belong to Rogers, so Vancouver games will be on the Sportsnet family of networks. I don't know about other matches, but I'd imagine there's a way to watch them in Canada.

Group stage lasts from August to October; knockout stage is in the Spring.

Liga MX and MLS at the same time, why would anyone subject themselves to this horror.

We interrupt this program to increase dramatic tension.
I think the champion will probably be, if Mexican, either Santos Laguna or Tigres, if they take the tourney seriously. Club América currently has an unexperienced manager so I don't expect them to win anything soon.

Nice thread tag, very appropriate.

Can't wait to see the lovely Belize team lose all games 10-0. Could have let one more CR team in to embarrass themselves like in previous years but no, they wasted money getting a barely passable stadium to be able to embarrass themselves instead.

Seattle will invent US teams winning CCL. We're even doing pretty lovely in MLS right now, so there's precedent.

STOP DOING HEROIN
I hope the Sounders don't win because the Club World Cup is even more dumb and pointless than the CCL, and gently caress having to play that tournament during the offseason.

Not that it will be a concern because Vancouver will wax us in group play, just like they always wax us in MLS.

The prize money isn't too bad for it though.

Given that the offseason is too long, this seem less worse than the CCL and Open Cup.

It was on this day that his greatest enemy defeated, the true lord of darkness arose. His name? MARIO.
I could of sworn there was a costa rican team that won it recently but recently was about ten years ago when Saprissa won it, am just hoping the mls teams (expect for seattle) to go far at and least compete with the eventual mexican winner which am guessing will be América or Tigres who's in the finals of the Libertadores right now.

At the LA game and can confirm that Mendiola is now literally dead and the Central FC keeper received a yellow per CONCACAF rules.

Tigres are a fraud and only managed to beat Meatpan 2-1, which means Herediano are still top of the group.

Queretaro are playing against the Belizean greens who will most likely be trashed and a waste of a spot that could have been used by another tico team to choke later.

Baring a hilarious meltdown later, LA looks like they'll easily claim the #1 seed coming out the group stage. They are already at a +9 goal differential after their first two home games, and I just don't see them conceding that many on the road.
