Scalebound looks really cool. A kind of multiplayer Xenoblade game with a big dragon and an action emphasis? I can dig it. Too bad I'll never buy an Xbone.

multiplayer and cool are not words that i got out of that video

The only thing that didn't pique my interest was that the regular combat combos seemed kind of slow and whatever, but I'm sure the game opens up into a more robust fighting system as you play. The whole ending stinger is clearly online players dropping into your game a la Dark Souls

Yo Styx: Lord of Shadows or whatever is like hot garbage I guess

Like it looked like it had good graphics so it should be a good game but it's like not and I don't understand why it is a bad game

how do you gently caress up being a goblin

Styx is darker than Bloodborne and doesn't let me use a torch to see. The gently caress even.

Whatever I'm gonna be Batman instead.

No lie, but Rise's S-link and the conclusion to her story arc is actually probably the most practical and relatable of them all, despite her being an idol. She basically learns that yeah, you do have to put up a facade or adopt a character in order to be loved by people or to get through life. That doesn't make the facade a lie or a false self--it is as much a part of you as whatever you think your "real" self is. It's actually the most legitimate psychological issue that gets sorted out, at least more nuanced than "I feel stifled by this small town" (Chie, Yukiko, Yosuke) or "Gender roles don't accurately define me, I am confused by this" (Naoto, Kanji).

Persona 4 is honestly a really good game, and i don't know how its viewed in Japan, but I feel it could be seen as quite subversive as well. Persona 5 being about rebellion should be interesting to see in a culture that can be viciously fond of conformity.

I'm sure it's just something they made up. Of course extremely historically accurate video game series "Assassin's Creed" might be finally blowing the lid off this conspiracy :tinfoil:

Man, AC2 at least based its stuff off actual conspiracies and weird events, like the Tunguska explosion and whatever. This franchise needs to die so we can make new historical video games that aren't buggy open-world messes.

Quest For Glory II posted:

I'm playing Catherine and the cast is practically shouting "MAN" at erica the whole time

That's pretty much overstating it. I never thought "sex change" when it came to whatever the issue was with her. I just figured that none of the guys went after her because of some other comical flaw, maybe she snores or is a bad cook or whatever. The twist that she's trans was a surprise for me, and I thought it was pretty funny. Surely you can't say that she's a bad example of a trans character, since she's easily the smartest and most level-headed of the main cast and is treated exactly like a woman by the script.

Quest For Glory II posted:

She's a good character but the other characters all tug their collars endlessly going "HMMM WHAT TO SAY" and then at one point at the bar vincent says "i'd appreciate this advice if it came from an actual woman" to her

It's pretty clear once you know the twist, but if you don't, again, I don't see why you would immediately assume trans stuff, or even take that moment particularly impactfully. Vincent largely dismisses Erica's opinions for a variety of reasons, and she's well-known by the group, so it just seemed like a classic "idiots don't listen to sensible character's advice" gag. Either way, I kind of dig it. Erica's existence in the plot is a really interesting one, and she's symbolically important as well as fictively.

i feel like Catherine was a not so subtle "guys are actually pathetic and suck" game

which is confusing because the concept and box artwork was like a porn mag

I'd argue Catherine's story has slightly more nuanced themes, but yes it does seem to portray all of its male characters as these emasculated dweebs. There's a lot of interesting images and themes in Catherine, and I think it, like all SMT games with good writing, excels in its portrayal of its side characters. You have a wide assortment of motley, crass characters who range the gamut of romantic issues, who don't really factor into the main plot, but become increasingly important as you progress in the game, and your failure or success in saving their lives is a great source of emotional investment in the story. The reason I like SMT games so much is because of the detail and attention paid to side characters and supplemental dialog.

It's the truth!

Otacon was probably my favorite character in MGS1. I felt his story was really quite tragic, and he was the only character who wasn't a soldier or bio weapon or ninja and he kind of felt more "grounded" than all the rest. Yeah he's a nerdy scientist. Scientists are nerds. I really felt bad for him, tricked into building a nuclear battle tank and having to watch the woman he stockholm syndrome fell in love with get shot in the face was pretty harrowing stuff, and I really was rooting for him to make it out okay. I actually prefer the ending with him and Snake than Meryl and Snake.
